Jim is getting secured in the car.  The plan is to push him quite a ways - maye a half-mile.  They'll get him to about 40 mph and he'll move out when he's ready.  I guess he feels no need to use every bit of race track that's available.

Course is clear.  Engines running.  Wind is 1-2 mph, maybe headwind for Knapp.  Moving on the truck.

I had a request for some shots of our friends from down under, Kim Krebs (I think I soelled that right) and Greg Watters.  So here they are:

A quick glimpse of the Aussie flag as I approached their pits.

I don't know the name of the crew member, but here are Greg and Kim in a candid shot.

Finally, they had a tire in the corner of their pit that looked a little worse for wear.  I asked if it delaminated.  Greg said with typical Aussie aplomb, "you could say that."  There's a video on YouTube here:

He's accelerating down towards the freeway end -- won't come this far, though.  On course at the nine, at the eight.

Through the seven    entry 262.8   kilo 268.3   mile  268.2   exit  273.2    That's all he needs.  Chute out.

He's stopped now at the 3 3/4.  Bikes will be next.  Charlie says about 10 minutes 'til they run.  DA 6570 feet right now.

Averages   268.894  kilo        268.837 mile.

In that case I'm sure new records are going to be set for audience on the site and lack of productivity for lsr enthusiasts.

Bike racers are in their leathers and sweating -- waiting, waiting.  Course is clear, doing a roll call of course worker positions.  Waiting to run, waiting to run.  

Kim Krebs will run first on the 750 Turbo bike.  From the mountain towards the pits.  She's rolling.

Through the nine mile, moving out just dandy.  On course at the eight mile.  Through the seven.  Entering the mile

Entry  238.12   kilo  238.7   mile   238.75   exit  239.2  That's on a 204 record. I guess they'll keep that.

Greg Waters is next on bike #379.

Course is clear and secure.  Waters is ready to run.  Engine running.

He's running (riding, okay?) down the course now.  SDemon car will run after the bikes.  Don't forget the electric bike will run next, after Waters, who is shooting ducks at the nine mile.  Then cleaned up, now running poorly again.

Entry  230.217   kilo  228.5   mile 228.29  no exit speed given yet.   Ran 257 yesterday and backed it with a 253.

Kim reports she saw some debris on the course at the four mile earlier -- maybe a foot-long piece of tape.  I wonder from whence that came. . .  Amazing what riders can see at full speed, hey?

The electric bike will run about a half mile past the end of the timed stretch.

Yep.  What he said...although the SD has a VERY nice V8 sound to it.

Brandon Miller about to run the electric bike, #27.  Track is clear for Charlie to have Miller run.  Under way, although you couldn't tell by the sound.

George Poteet is getting into the Speed Demon - getting ready to run.  Best guesstimate is 5 - 7 minutes.  Go pee NOW!

Why go now?  Because George and crew have targeted 4 6 0 mph on this run.  Must have twisted the wick up a tad, so to speak.

Engine is running, canopy is down.  Under way on the push truck.  Car is off the truck.

entry speed  419.1   kilo  425.3   Mile  425.1   exit 430.6     chute out   chute did not blossom -- or it's the small chute only.  Only used small chute.

Electric bike will return run in a few minutes.  When he runs -- if the run is somewhat faster than the first run - he might immediately return again.

Fire is looking at the Speed Demon -- there's smoke.  No flames, but enough smoke to make Fire check carefully.

Fire reports Speed Demon is under control.  No issues.

I smelled hot brakes (I think) as George went by me as he coasted into his pit.  Maybe that's what was hot.
