Dean, it's still way too early in LA to be drinking beers, isn't it?  So here's the 8.17 AM MDT update:

Poteet & Main still aren't ready to run - hey, not ready to leave the pit for a run.  So we've elected to run the "Rice Rocket" (Cook's phrase, not mine) first.  The clocks need to be refarbulated - -

Whoops, never mind, Poteet & Main now say they'll be ready to leave the pits in five minutes and head for the north end, so what I was going to say -- that the Rice car would run first -- is now not correct.

We'll see.  I'll letcha know.  In the meantime I'll go fire up the pit bike.

Vehicles are heading out from the pits.  The Demon isn't on the trailer yet, but some things (like the ambulance) are getting into position.

The Speed Demon (which I think I'll start denoting by the initials "SD" - takes too long to type the full name each time) will run first using the D motor.  The bodywork is on the car - but it's still not in the transporter.

Yesterday we saw Mike Akatiff and Ken Puccio of the Ack team, and now I see Terry Nish, Cec McCray and a few others wearing Nish team shirts, so - even if the vehicles aren't here to run -- the folks with the vested interest sure are in attendance.  It's good to see 'em all here -- a chance to shoot the breeze in a somewhat-low-stress environment.

All course workers are in place - we'll just sit and wait.

I  know, I know -- 96 bottles. . .

Don't drink whiskey and am at work anyway. DOT might frown on anything more than my iced tea!

Photos:

Another beautiful sunrise.

The "Rice Rocket"   :?

And a couple of shots of the Demon which seems to have just barely put on the trailer for the trip down to the mountain end for its first run.  We hope, anyway.

Ray, I'll see your sunrise and raise you two.  The first shot is from the top of the overpass near the truckstop, the second from Land's End.

Good luck to all the racers and have safe runs!!

Thanks Ray for the pics and updates. I'm at work and check in on my breaks and at lunch time.

Ack Attack team not running is smart! Those men know the vehicle and what it likes and more importantly dislikes at speed. Very good gentlemen, very good. Forgo this battle and in the end, WIN the War!

Slim, do you know who the driver is for the Rice bros car. Mark, James or Alan?
