They're putting the bonnet back on the car and will move the car to about a mile up the course to start.

No, it's not the car that's a Brit -- it's Mike Cook -- --- at least it's his word.  Bonnet, indeed.  I wonder if that's what word the team uses.

While they're moving in to position, Rice/Vigeant reports they've got an issue that requires a quick trip to SLC for parts.  They won't run 'til they get back from the big city -- but they forecast they will be able to run shortly after noon.

FWIW, the record they ran on yesterday was (according to Dave Petrali) - was the 7/31/81 record set in the LN7 by Larry Wilcox.  Kilo speed was 137.041,   mile speed 138.728.

The SD is close to running -- being lowered to the ground from the transporter -- but after things quiet down again I'll give you the story on yesterday's D motor run/record.

Doing a radio/course check right now -- course is clear and locked down.  Waiting for a crew support truck that's at the five and going to the spectator area to be available for the SD car.

3-4 mph wind heading cross/toward the mountains.

Starting the engine.  Closing the canopy, car is underway on the push truck.

Car is off the truck.

Hauling "the mail" - my edit of what they really said.

Through the two mile

At the five mile, entering the timed stretch.

Entry speed  404.9   kilo  411   mile 411

Chute out.  Average speed will be in the high 4-teens, right?

Course is released for the motorcycles to get in position about the two mile.
Accurate speeds for this run:    Entry  404.9   kilo  411.3   mile 411.0   exit 416.6

Final average speeds:  Kilo  419.923   mile 419.776    per Dave P.

Bikes are getting into position -- but you've got time to go fill your coffee cup and empty your bladder -- not necessarily in that order.

Spectacular.
It took many years for Al Teague to set that record.
Going back to Flatfire it took Ron Main many years to break it.

George Poteet makes it look easy.

Super congratulations to the entire team.

Ok, put the big motor back in and stop playing around.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Sure makes the (Retired timer) proud to hear about the runs, wish I was there for this one as well. Now a spectator and will be watching at the world finals from the side lines.

Bikes are in position to run, course is clear and locked down.  Wind from the highway to the mountains at 4-5 (at the tower).

Bikes are running, waiting to be started.  Drew Gatewood is starter -- will send the first bike.  #969 is under way.  That's Al Lamb, right?

Through the eight, past the seven.  In the timed  entry 211.5   kilo  212.0   mile  211.99  exit speed 212.1

Wrong -- it was NOT Lamb, but WAS Jamie Williams.

He's now off the course at the 4 1/4 and waiting.  He may move to the three mile, but engine is off and he's standing on the course.

Al Lamb is next.

He's under way, heading toward the pits.  I guess it's time for me to wake up.

He's at the seven mile  entry 245.5   kilo  252.3  mile  251.8

Coasting down through the four mile.  Oughta have a smile on his face - it qualifies him for a record.  Drew is checking to confirm that -- the old record was 245.

So both Al and Jamie have qualified this morning.
