R & V are looking for a Power Commander 3 Ignition Module.  I talked to Allen, I offered my PC2, they might have better luck with Greg if their engine and ECU are not the early model, I forgot to ask when we talked.  Forgot about that 32 vs 64 bit debacle we went through when we picked up a newer motor.

Some photos from the Knapp trailer.

Slim -- thanks for posting.  Interesting engine series configuration within that streamliner.

Here's some stuff for you:  Jim Knapp (I asked -- two "p"s in his last name) is going to run on a four-year-old George Poteet record of just a titch under 251.  George set that record using an F motor that was built for a turbo - but didn't run the little blower on the record runs.  Jim's car motors aren't blown, either, of course.

Knapp's truck is towing the trailer -- and parked about ten feet from me while he goes to chat with Cook.  Chat over, Jim's leaving.  Ambulance has just returned from lunch, so things will start getting exciting soon.

Speed Demon crew, team, and car have just gone past, all on or in various multi-wheeled devices.  I don't know the order in which the cars will run -- but here's Cook on the radio:

Knapp will run first, starting at the 1 1/2.  If he qualifies he wants the track to remain empty 'til he returns.  If he does not qualify the bikes will go to the course.  Electric bike first, then Greg and Kim.  If they qualify they'll allow George to run the SD during their 2-hour interval.

Put that in your grinder and try to make sense of it.  Or think of it this way -- it's going to be a busy few hours here at the Shootout.

Knapp is getting in the car.  Course is locked down.  Aussie team is trailering down to their chosen start area.  Just before leaving I saw Greg carrying a very heavy-looking cooler -- ice for the bike, hey?

Speed Demon was iced about 30 minutes before leaving for the far end -- I wonder how much extra they took in case there's a long wait.

The electric bike is going down to the 1 1/2 or so, too, to make a run when there's time for him.

Knapp is putting the gloves on, ready to start a trio of engines.  Did you notice the three tachs in the canopy?  The three shifters?  The three kill switches?  The single main shifter disable switch?  It was probably hard to see that detail in the photos - that's why I'm telling you about some of 'em.

The Barnyard Bearcat is #1690 and will run on that not-quite-251 record.  Driver is now belted in - engines aren't started yet.  Post and continue.

Oh - just remembered to tell you - about the vibration in the Speed Demon on that last run.  George said he noticed some vibration - decided to lift a bit - and came home safely, record speed in hand.  During the turnaround the decision was made to blame a front wheel bearing, so both front wheels were serviced and what needed changing was changed.  Dan Warner might have better information than I -- he's worked on that type of front end quite a bit.

Course is clear and all three engines are running.  I'll start a new post for the run per se.

Canopy is down, push truck is on the car, vehicle under way.  Car is off the truck and gaining speed, leaving the one mile marker.

Through the two, at the three and accelerating.  At the four, closing in on the timed stretch.  Doesn't need any specific number to qualify, but under 250 would be sad.

Entry 270   kilo  269  mile  269.4

At the seven at the eight at the nine -- no chute.

Ray that shot of P & M is so dramatic. The mountains and the angle of the sun

is what makes early morning photography so exciting. That opportunity is no

longer available during Speed Weak.

FREUD

Thanks, Doc.  I agree 100 percent about the lack of opportunity for shots...even if I only got in on the very tail end of opportunity at SW...it'd sure be nice to be a little closer...and, of course, the fact that the car was running FROM the mountain.

The bearing that went on the SD was a front wheel bearing, according to Pork Pie.

Here's a shot of the electric bike as they were thrashing to get it tied down on the trailer.  They're looking for a speed of around 100 mph and only want 1/4 mile to get up to speed.  So they'll start from the 6 3/4 and head back toward the pits.

Fire truck is chasing the car - still no chute.  May be not using the chute so he can do a quick turnaround, but let's see where he finally stops.  Fire reports they're at the ten mile and Knapp isn't yet stopped.

He's done a half U-turn and is stopped.

Jim Knapp is about ready to get back into the car.  Didn't know that Warner has time in the car.

Knapp will use the chute on the return run, won't roll into the pits.  Wants to clear the track quickly so the bikes can run.

He's got 40 minutes remaining in his 1-hour window.  Getting into the vehicle, getting belted (in).  Getting belted (other) is for after hours, after he's got a record in hand.
