Ray, the Olds is donk!

Around these parts a "donk" is the opposite of a lowrider: an A or G-body that's been jacked up so high it'd make Bigfoot blush.  I dunno if that's what you meant, Max, but...well, it was real clean and tender.

Over the years I have seen many chute failures due to being damp and salt crusted. The Herbert Steen had one come out and it was a wad and bounced along the track, Others are poor maint. and attach points with out a spool  meaning a bolt to hold the loop and they tear. It's your best friend when in trouble but the driver needs to not wait to pull in when things get crazy.

As they're saying on the radio, "The nine-nine-nine-nine car" right in the middle of the timed mile.

And back the other way.

Car 9999 -- Rice/Vigeant -- is about ready to run.  They'll go first on their return run, to be followed by the bikes.  Remember that the bikes have a two hour turnaround window -- they can beter afford to be magnanimous.

James Rice is in the vehicle now.  Engine is running.

Car is being pushed off.  Car is underway  from mile 10 to mile 2.

Past the 9 mile.   At the 8 mile.

Entering the timed traps

200.410  entry      kilo 207.2   mile 206.7   exit 211.585

One happy Rice brother on the radio, and another in the car.  Best run for them of the event, of course.

By the way, don't forget that Dave Petrali uses the USAC clocks to time the Rice/Vigeant car -- no conflict of interest.

Right now Drew Gatewood is prepping bike #968 - Jamie Williams - to run within about 5 minutes.

Glen, whaddaya mean about getting together?

Jamie Williams on bike #968 under way.

Jamie Williams on #968 through the 8 mile and heading this way.

Entering timed stretch   222.3   kilo  222.5   mile  222.49   exit 222.4

That's consistency, hey?

Charlie is heading to Jamie to check him out.  Fire is rolling there, too -- don't know if there's an issue or just nobody there to help him.  Bike is stopped between the event race course and the BNI course.

Kim on bike 1979 is ready to run, will go to the ten mile.  Wait a minnit -- Kim or Greg?

Slim I am thinking on how we want to format what we need to do to keep it going during slow events like this one. Max and I talked on the phone yesterday a little about it. The remarks from others on the interviews the other day went well and they want more.

Glen, you and Max and I should talk about this offline, after this event is over.  I'll be thinking about it.

Back to the Shootout.  Jamie and bike are clear of the course, no issues, and Kim on #1379 is ready to run.  Greg will run after she's done.  Course is clear.  Engine is running for this down run.  She had that aborted run earlier this afternoon.

Bike is under way.  Through the three -- running from the two to the ten.  Through the four, and the five.

Entry 222.5   kilo  224.4   mile speed  224.0   exit 224.205

That's better, hey?  That's a qualifier for sure.

Greg will run soon -- as soon as Kim clears the course.  She's slowing now, exiting the course.

Greg is under way on #379

Entry  246.3   kilo   246.9  mile  246.7   exit 246.5

There's another one of those unchanging speed runs.

When using a tube for the chute the talc lubes it and cuts down on friction burns during deployment. We did it years ago on the pilot chutes in a normal pack on the dragster.
