From what I read the SD had the "C" motor in it this morning and was not using the entire course. Wow 419 mph average for a new record on a shakedown pass...Awesome what that team has been doing...

Jim Knapp's problem is the bumpy course versus lots of power.  The car lifts off and the motors spin up the drive tires, then they hit ground and hook up.  Back and forth and back and forth.  Twisted mainshaft and broken brackets are the results.  I'll go ask him what they've got planned.

By the interrupting way, Al Lamb's exit was 256.9 -- still gaining.

The obvious answer to a twisted jack shaft is to put it in the other way and untwist it!

If a spare wasn't in the parts bin . . .
Good luck finding a spare on the weekend.
Was there one on each engine?. You could run two engines.
If it is on the final drive a spare would only suffer the fate.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Any up date on Knap's problem with the shaft?

No "word" but I'm sitting in my Burb across from their trailer and they're workin on it.  I'll see what I can find out in a bit.

Edit:  Mike Cook just broadcast that Knapp should be ready for a run "soon."

The twisted shaft - isn't the problem.  The twist is between drive and driven, but there's no displacement/wobble.  So put it in and run it.

The broken brackets/supports were fixed.  That was a big issue.

Jim says that they'll be ready for a run yet this morning - maybe, but for sure in the early afternoon.

That is a great run for Al Lamb, his first run over 250 and the first for a Honda I would imagine.  That is a fast 1000cc scooter!  Congratulations to Al and his Team!

I didn't think it required a qualifying run (over the existing record).

I thought that if you were comfortable with your speed and thought you

could go fastest enough on the return so that the average was a new record

that was the way things worked.

It's lovely to be faster on the first pass and be over the record but not necessary.

Right or wrong?

Here are a few photos without much captioning...then I gotta take a nap.  I can't stay awake.  Btw, the P&M turnaround was the smoothest I've ever seen, although I heard that he had a "bearing problem" on the return run...but got the record.

Btw, always tamp down the intercooler ice with a 7/8" open end wrench.

Any idea what parts the Rice's are chasing?  Just noticed that was post 5500 only 2700 behind Jon.

Ray that shot of P & M is so dramatic. The mountains and the angle of the sun

is what makes early morning photography so exciting. That opportunity is no

longer available during Speed Weak.

I was sorta thinking before the start of the Shootout that the Speed Demon team would be smart to back it off a little and take care of the record first.
Sounds funny to say "back it off"over 400.

Now they can take the piece of wood from under the go pedal!
