Jamie Williams is forecast to be the next racer on the course.  Expect him to head out in 20 minutes is the word on the course.  We'll see about that.  The trailer is hooked to the truck and is in front of the pit -- no bike on it yet, though.

The R-V car will not have the engine measured right now per Petrali and Warner.  They intend to run more -- and with the same engine all week -- so take the chance that the engine won't blow up, I guess.

Speed Demon is still wrenching.  Sure wish I had lunch just now.  Maybe I'll go visit one of the pits and se if I can beg a bite to eat.

Bright cloudy skies here -- sun poking through, calm winds, temps in the high 60s.

I'll go find out what motor R/V ran, Stainless.

Is that a tire they just ran on at the rear of the car?

No, that's a spare.  The salt got on it while rolling it into the "if needed" position .

Motor on the R&V lakester is a 1350cc Hayabusa, naturally aspirated.

Alan Rice just spent a couple of minutes over here with some thins-n-that stuff.

First of all, the motor is a 'Busa engine, but - it's built as a turbo motor.  They're running NA now, so it's sorta "detuned".  They'll use the same engine later this week on spray, too.  The car is geared for 200 at EM -- got a maroon hat with this gear set.  So here he was in a soft part of the powerband.

But Alan wants to officially thank Dave Petrali for doing the timing of the run.  Way back when the R/V team started thinking about running at this event - they began making plans for someone other than their firm - Chronologic - to do the actual timing of the runs.  And the final result is that Dave used the USAC clocks just now to time the Rice/Vigeant car's run.  No conflict of interest this way - no questions about the veracity of the timing.

Jamie Williams, per Drew Gatewood, is still in the pit but five-ten minutes from getting the bike on the transport trailer to go down to the start point a few miles up the course.

Speed Demon has been rolled forward from the work area in the pits to in plain site.  Big crowd around the car -- I can't see, from here for sure, but it looks like there is daylight visible in the engine compartment - like maybe the motor has been pulled.  I'll go look -- don't ask questions of me while I'm gone, you hear?

More photos:

A very happy Alan Rice after his back-to-back 180+ runs.

The R&V lakester back in the pits.  I didn't realize that it's a chain drive thing and that they spray cold water on the chain to keep it cool.

Terry & Mike Nish are here, but only as observers.

The Speed Demon crew found that they had compression leaking into the coolant tank which explains all the drips when they brought the car back from their qualifier.  They decided that instead of trying to find the problem with the motor in the car, they'd put the 4-banger in and weld up the water tank.  Then they'd look into the 299" motor's problems.

Again, stay tuned.

Ray - close, but here's a later version of the SD story:

They're pulling the heads of the D motor and installing the C in the car.  They'll run the C motor from the 1 1/2 and through the lights, the idea being to get some numbers out of the bigger motor without running it the extra mile and a half under full power.  Ron says they're hoping for 425++ without hurting the motor.  They'll decide about the D once Duttweiler sees what's going on inside.

In the meantime, Jamie Williams is about to run his bike.  I'll be back in a second or two.

Engine is running on Jamie William's bike.  Bike #969 is under way.  Through the three, the four, entering the timed stretch:

entry speed  212.22,   kilo  211.46   mile  211.525

That's on a 201 record.

Bike is slowing and coming to a stop at the 7 or so.  Rider is okay, bike is stopped, course is unlocked.

Speeds  212.22   kilo  211.46   mile  211.52,  exit 211.43    Expect a return run - but don't forget there's a two-hour return window.

FIM Charlie says next rider to run will be Al Lamb, probably, but he and his team want to talk with Jamie Williams first before making the decision to go.

Course is unlocked -- time to go to the porta-potties, folks.

James Rice is going to run the R/V car next.  The car is out on the track in the pits, being prepped, and will be moved to about the 2 mile to begin the run.

Jamie is in the pit revving the engine.  By the way -- the bike is running naked - or at least the bodywork was off when it got trailered into the pits.

Can't make a run right now - there's a music video production crew out on the salt -- not on the course, but too close to allow making a safe run.  Gotta go move those folks while the Rice car is pushed to their chosen starting position.

Ah, here's a nice little bit:  James Rice needs to run about 140 or more.  Hunh?  Well, it sounds like they're trying to have one of them get the record for the mile and the other for the kilo.  But I wonder -- since Alan ran about 181 in both mile and kilo -- does this imply that he'll only accept the record in one of the lengths - and James will only in the other?  Stay tuned -- this one will have to straighten itself out.

Okey-dokey, Rice Vigeant lakester is about to run.  Will run from mile 2 near the freeway to mile 10 near the mountains.  Putting the last of the belts and restraints on the driver now.  I'll post this and get back with more information -- but I want you folks at home to get ready for the run.  James Rice will be driving this time.

Ooops -- hold up a minnit, boys and girls.  The fuel pump on the R/V lakester won't start.  Alan suggests that if they can't find anything else -- look for this fuse, located in that fusebox, and see if that's the issue.

Still no electricity.  Things are on hold.

The R/V car is running now and the canopy is down.  Gremlin has been located.

Car is moving out, off the truck.  Running south to north.

Entry speed 182   kilo   183   mile   183  exit 183.8

They'll do a quick turnaround on the lakester and then run Jamie's return run.  The Australians have the bikes in the trailer here in the pit - will head down to the two or whatever in a while.
