I know at Speedweek that SD/GP had "wanted" an official 450 on the books upcoming.  He is pretty darn close now.

Definitely curious to see how Al squeezed 150lbs of weight into that Honda!

Thanks so much for the updates. Did George not just reset that 406 to 419 yesterday? I am just asking.

The 419 yesterday was with the D motor. The return run will push it out-of-sight!
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Speed Demon at the seven mile and chute is out, car is slowing.

Rice Vigeant plans to run next.  Car is on the salt in front of their pit and waiting to move to the start line.

R/V is being pushed out to their line now.

Speed Demon speeds are:   430.035  kilo  429.200  mile   Averages when available.

A bike engine is running in the Australian pit.  Take that for what it's worth, but it's the first time I've heard an engine ovefr there this morning.Speed Demon unofficial averages:   Kilo   439.562    mile  439..024

Congratulations.

A shot of the SD in the timed mile at around 430...with a shredded tire.  Not bad. George kept his foot in it big time.

Now that the run is over, here's the post I tried to make twice a few minutes ago.  Oh, yes -- Betty Howard just informed me that this run is George Poteet's 26th run over 400 mph.

On the down run the course watchers reported finding bits of rubber on the track after the Speed Demon went by.  And when the crew pulled the bodyoff the car in the pits they found one of the front tires had been chunked about 1/3 of the way around.  They proceeded to change the tire.

They also proceeded to relieve the notches in the pan under the tires, using files and hammers and spray lube.  Mike Cook was seen wielding a spray can - might have been putting a bit of paint  on the shield to show if there was contact.

Whatever, the tire bits were located at the part of the course where the car's speed would have been greatest - so the tire's growth would have been at maximum.  Here's the tire:
