So I assume Max's 'liner is not for sale anymore?
Or has it been sold and the new owner is planning on bringing it out?

Here's the story on the 9999 Rice & Vigeant lakester.  They hooked up their nitrous bottle and then tried to retard the ignition via the DynoJet PC3 controller box.  It didn't want to play.  So they decided to manually retard the ignition by moving the crank trigger pickup.  It's located under the black cover in the first photo.  (Approximately under the red arrow in 2nd photo.)

In order to move the pickup, they had to remove some material from the mounting plate and drill new mounting holes for said plate.  As I was told, it was all done in an area that "you can't hardly get to."  So they moved the pickup about 5 degrees in the retard direction.  Then they started having voltage drop problems at the fuel pump when the nitrous solenoid engaged.  They added 2 relays and a 2nd battery to work around that.

The last photo shows a few grimaces as they were testing it under power.  It was a bit noisy.  Ok.  It was REAL noisy.  But they seem to have a handle on it, although it isn't quite done and they won't run until tomorrow.

We're done for the day.  No report yet on the SDemon leak.  Steved Strupp made a short run in the white '68 Camaro - didn't bother to run through the lights - - just a tuning run.  Maybe tomorrow he'll run farther.

Fire and Ambulance have been dismissed for the day, and Nancy and I are packing up the trailer and pit so we can go to town.

Now the bad news:  Thje morning call is to be here at 6 fricking 30!!   That way we'll be ready to run as soon as there's enough light for the electric bike. He wants to run as early as possible to take advantage of the cool morning air, since the electrics like the cool weather.  It keeps the motor and batteries cooler and therefore the bike runs better and farther.
Speaking of that - he made his two runs today and then rode the bike back to the pits -- without a recharge.  Still - he wants best possible conditions.

That's enough typing for now.  We'll be back in the morning -- supposedly at 8.30 Michigan time (maybe it'll be easier if we use that time signature).  Sigh - a - nara.

Thanks, Salt.  I have a few more photos to post, but I'm gonna do it from my motel room, since the web connection is just a wee bit faster than thru my cell phone.

Sam: Thanks, man.  I appreciate the good words.

Glen: Speed Demon's problem is either clutch or transmission.  I don't know if they're running a wet clutch...or if not, there's a good chance the transmission's blowed up.  I first saw Kenny Duttweiler putting a valve cover back on and I said, "this looks like it might be a bad thing" (meaning the motor.)  He said, "No, the motor's fine."  Then I watched as the crew pulled the driveshaft and its shield out and the driveshaft looks fine.  Then I asked Ron Main who told me that it was clutch or trans and that they would have it fixed by morning, run the big motor again and then put the 4-banger in it for the 2-3 liter record...I think.  That might be the one that Jim Knapp just set (last photo.)  Or is it?

I'm so confused now after doing a search of FIA records and the Demon's runs that I don't have a clue as to Who's on first.  Was the 419.776 record they set this morning in the FIA A-1-10 (5-8 liter, blown) class?  That would have broken Al Teague's record of 405.862 from 2002.  P&M already have the A-1-9 (3-5 liter, blown) record at 363.673 from 2010.  Did they bump that with the 299" motor?

Like I said, I'm confused.  And tired.  I'll post another coupla photos and hit the rack early so I can be on the salt to shoot the kid on the bike.  Wait.  That didn't sound right.  Who knows?  I'll be there and we'll see what happens.

Last photos for tonite.

Jack Roger's 1st gen Camaro being shaken down by Steve Strupp.  I'm jealous.  I really like Camaros and in particular 1st and 3rd Generation ones.  I can dream, I spose.

I'll do that.  Everyone has been very nice about allowing us access to their pits and turnaround areas.  'Course we gotta make sure we stay outta the way, but that's just common (or maybe uncommon) sense.

Thanks for the reminder, man.

Jim Knapp's car has no blower, so it's in FIA "Group II".  If P&M still has the turbo on their 4-banger, they'd be in Group I, so they would not be competing against Knapp.  However, the record Knapp broke this morning was set by Speed Demon with the 4, but they had removed the turbo back then.

Anyway, Group I = blown, Group II = unblown.
