Which class is the R-V car running? And what is the record?

Hey, no secrets out here -- Dave Petrali was just timed as he drove down the course -- 105 in the kilo, 114 exit.  Major surprise around the salt flats -- that his rental isn't speed-limited.

The Rice Rocket car is being moved to the 2 mile, from whence it will start the run.  Alan is in his firesuit.

It takes me a little longer cuz I have to edit the photos, but here are some shots of the Demon:

Right after it pulled into the pits for the turnaround.  There was a lotta water dripping from the liner.  I thought it was from the intercooler.

They're pulling the plugs for examination.

Right after Kenny Duttweiler looked at this plug he said, "Cancel it.", meaning the return run.

Here are 3 of the spark plugs they pulled.  I can't see any water, but I'm not the expert.  Sigh.  Another 400+ run, another (apparently) broken motor.

Is that a tire they just ran on at the rear of the car?

Rice car engine is running.  Starting from the two mile, remember,  Course is clear.  Canopy is closing.

Car is moving, off the truck.

Sounds good even three miles away -- here in the pit.  Hitting a bump or two - through the three mile.

Entry speed:  180.7   kilo   181   mile   181.6

Cook says "As Glen Barrett would say, "Take it to Impound".

Will not pull the chute so they can coast to the 10 mile for the return run.

Final numbers:

Entry was 180.7   kilo  181.6,  mile 181.6, exit  182.3

Expect about a half-hour turn around.

Not much activity in the bike side of the pits.  No engines running,  Greg, Kim, and Jim are back -- had gone to the spectator area to watch George's run.

Sure, now that I type that -- I hear a bike engine running.  Don't see whoit is, though.

Jim Knapp is still pounding and working on things in the trailer.  Speed Demon is off the tarp and back into the work area of the pit.  Rice will be turned around and sent back this way in a short while.

Wow - they snuck up on us.  Rice just ran the return run - and backed up the numbers, setting the first rec ord of the event.

Entry speed  178.45,  kilo  181.6,   mile 181.4,  exit speed  183.9

I'll get the averages when they read 'em out.

Congratulations!  Averages:   Kilo:  181.687,  mile  181.543.

Vehicle is stopped and will push back to the pits.

Speed Demon is being worked on.  They're taking the air ducting off, the intercooler is removed and I hear wrenches turning.  Don't have further at this point.

Fire and ambulance are released for lunch, so nothing will run for a while.  Break time, everyone -- back on your heads.

Sure wish I was there, near the timing trailer.  Paradise with a timing trap view.  Thanks for the updates and photos.
