Ah, the stuff that didn't get posted earlier in the day. First of all -- a shot proving the Ray theRat does hang out on the course, waiting for the shot. Here he is awaiting Jim Knapp's departure. Ray is on the far right of the photo -- use a magnifying lens to see him standing sorta behind the black course marker:
During a break in the (un)action the drag comes out to work on bettering the course -- which was already pretty good:
The motorcycle "ghetto", on the freeway side of the pits. Al Lamb's semi, and to his right Jamie Williams and then the pit of Greg, Kim, and Fireman Jim Higgins. And now the new racer, Brandon Miller and the electric bike, has moved in, too. I promised you a photo - but he got on the bike and followed a support vehicle down the course before I got the camera. He didn't return - so we'll both wait 'til tomorrow for that photograph.
The Speed Demon's trailer, waiting empty for morning, with the SD car itself all bundled up for a warm night's rest:
In case a racer is heading towards the pits/freeway -- and can't get it slowed down enough -- there's this net. It's off the course on the mountain side - that is, to the racer's right, and there's a dragged smooth track leading to it. And since some racers are for sure going to be sure that they'd rather chance getting it hauled down from speed instead of possibly damaging the paint job -- there's a nicely dragged course right beside the net so the racer can drive for a while farther, avoiding the freeway and the pits, and eventually get into the soft stuff and slow down - or sink. Really -- this scenario was covered during the drivers meeting. Anyway - the net and the cone line leading the racer to it:
What would the salt flats be if it weren't for photo shoots?
Or for wedding photos. I couldn't resist this one, which included the stalking shark circling the bride:
That's all there is for now. I've got a run log from Dave Petrali - showing the runs of the Rice/Vigeant car. I haven't looked yet - but will try to post it.
