I got this one from Rodders Journal in an email. Earl Evans headed to or from the salt. I'd love a pickup and would almost kill for the panel...then there's that tank.

The Hot Rod Journal is a classy magazine.  Times must have been different in the days when the world was turning from black and white to color.  Did you notice how people in these old photos are not very fat?  Also, there is a whole lot less of everything in the pits.  Mostly cars and people.  I sort of wish things were simple again, but maybe not.  The popup, lattes and beer cooler are sorta modern day essentials.

Well, Lee Gustafson stopped by my shop for lunch today. He brought some Bonneville pictures from ~'59-'62. Way cool stuff. He let me scan a few so I could show them here.....

Thanks Lee.  8-)

I'm not sure who they all are so if you know something about any I post sing out.

That's the Summers Bros. rear eng. modified. It had a front drive blower but don't know why they made the inlet tube so funky.

whole lot less grey hair too :-D

we just got the news that there isn't going to be an ice truck at the lake this year, that's a toughie......and I'm not talking about intercoolers.

There are almost all of my favorite Bonneville cars just on the page above thispost....that's not the best angle for the shaddoff, but there are some really beautiful pieces there, and the photos have faded just right.

Thanks for the offer, but I meant Lake Gairdner...however that's one thing I'll tick off the list for when I do come to Bonneville  I'll have a big shaker, some Noilly ,some dry gin and some little green olives.

Mike, that was when we still drove out the highway toward SLC and turned left, at MP 12 I think, to get on the salt. The wooden bridge crossed the canal and

many people pitted along the dike. (The pits were not a mile long, either.) The return road was on the mountain side of the course. In at

least one foto the telephone poles were evident. There was no wire on them at that time but plenty of insulators. We harvested 400 of

those pyrex insulators with the lead bushing between the glass and the metal  post that went thru the cross arm.

If I remember correctly, Bonneville was the only place where pyrex was used.

WOW..........the good old daze.
