101 Ranchero was Big Bill Edwards, the Mayor of Wells, I believe.  I think the tonneau was the reason for the current wording.

The foto of Vesco was when it had the Offy in it. I think it was called SKYTRACKER and had the two wheels mounted outside the body, mid

ship style, and ran as a car.

That was also the configuration when he crashed it.

That's right Freud, I believe he put "normal" rear wheels/tires on, got sideways and the extra wheels he added to make it a car dug in. He was hauling, as always, and lucky to get away with that one.

Dads Stude 71    B&N power   spun at 230mph+ record at 193mph

i could be driving the station wagon following the push truck in this picture; could be elmo or marcia, too.

ranchero

the #101 ranchero is big bill edwards' turbocharged somekindachevy.

i knew bill from hanging out at ak miller's where he managed the enterprise, where they did all the turbo work.

bill used to break something every year.  his solution: more horsepower.  not sure how fast he ever went.  but, i remember it coming alive one time when it didn't come apart and it scared the stuffin' out of bill, aka: the mayor of wells.

many stories about bill and wells!

Gary, great shots. Love the old shots. I didn't get to Bonneville until '85 as I lived east before that. Here's a Bad Stude from that race. I also have a '79 ZX that I will turn into a race car when it fails smog....
