Richard Assen is gonna need at least a week to get that smile off his face.

Erin Hunter and Andy Sills got tired of riding the BMW "two-up" so they decided to try it with the Burt Munro commemorative trailer.

And Poteet & Main have a new crewmember.

(it's a little slow here.)

Hey, thanks to everone for the heads up(s).  It's an LSR community effort.  Don't know why we dropped offline.

Ron Main just announced on the CB that they're about to start the SD engine.  Their support/engine starting truck is busy grading the course but heading back to the pit for the car-start.

A nice long railroad train just went past.  I'm sorry that I didn't get a count on the number and typesof cars, but it did have three locomotives.

And Enola Gay Cafe is closing up and heading home (all the way to Wendover) at the end of today's activities.  They will be at WF, Jasie reminds us.  I wonder if it's a good thing - - that I'm getting more and more enjoyment out of the cheeseburgers they serve up.  Three days in a row!  That's new for me - I usually switch around on the menu.  Whatever, the EGC crew has been out here doing a great job.  Visit them on Facebook, she says - or better still, on the Salt.

Speed Demon engine just ran for a few moments.  Sounded okay from here, about 50 yards away.

Oooh, oooh, a permit semi carrying a tower part for a wind generator just passed on westbound I-80.  That's about the zillionth one we've seen since SpeedWeek began.

In other news, Leslie and Al have got their bikes running in the pits and have asked Mike Cook for permission to take them to the 1 1/2 for some testing -- not official qualifying runs, but testing under power and on the track.  They're still in the pit - will keep you up to date.

Nothing new from the Nish pit.

Jim Texican just drove up and says the Speed Demon bodywork is on the car and the transporter trailer is now moving into position to load the car.  We might have a run in an hour or so.  Get some work done now -- might have to ask the boss for an extended break later on. . .

Speed Demon is at the far end of the track getting ready for a down run.  Leslie and Jamie are going to ride their bikes to the four, one at a time, testing, then will ride together back here to the pits.  They'll do it soon - or hold off 'til Speed Demon runs.

It looks like Nish is packing it up -- awnings are down and car is lined up to go into the trailer.

Jamie Wagner on the 968 bike just drove out of the pits and will test on his way to the 4 mile.  Leslie hasn't left here yet.

(break of a few minutes)

Leslie has started the bike and is moving out of the pit and heading to where Jamie is hanging out on the return road.  They'll then ride back to the pits (here) together.  Then the track will be open for the Speed Demon.

About the Nish car/team:  Now I know why there's no activity in the Nish pit -- the entire crew has gone to the spectator area, in the neighborhood of the timed stretch, to watch the Speed Demon go through at full song.  I don't blame them -- wish we could go down there, too.  Ah, the rigors of being a pit area steward.

Leslie's engine is cutting off and back on.  No further information yet.  She's at the 2 mile and slowing.

(BREAK)

Ooops, I've been lying to you.  Earlier in this post I said it was Al on the 968 bike -- it was Jamie Wagner.  I'll go back and change the name.

Speed Demon team is icing the intercooler right now.  Tighten your seat belts, folks.

Since things are picking up a bit, I'll post a few photos.

Al Lamb's blistered/chunked tire

His bike getting a little fine tuning

Jamie willam's bike getting a cleaning from the oil that came from a loose oil filter...apparently no damage to the engine

Richard Assen checking his spark plugs carefully after the FIM inspection.

George is in the car.  More soon, but fill your coffee/pop cups and sit still.  Hope the refresh button has icewater cooling for the next few minutes.

Course is clear, Jamie's bike (not running/runable for unknown reason) is on the trailer at the two mile and being moved to safe area.  They'll stay down at their position 'til after George runs.

Speed Demon support crew truck is about at half course and waiting for the car to pass.  Course is clear and turned over to timing stand, who has turned it over to Cook Sr. with the SD car.  Engine running.  Canopy is down.

Speed Demon #715 is under way, off the push truck.  (post)

Smoke appears to be coming from the car per Cook -- rolling Fire and Ambulance.  Everyone else hold still.

He's pulled off to the side at the 11 mile.  No smoke right now, but fire still rolling.  Canopy is open.

George is out of the car and Cook reports oil on the ground.  George activated fire system.  More smoke coming from the car.

Fire #2 is now rolling, ambulance is on the scene.

Ambulance and Fire has now been stood down - no report on the issue yet.  Will keep this up to date.
