442 kilo!!!!!!!!!! WOW.

Speed Demon and Spirit of Rett both ran a 417 kilo last year. Both had a fastest speed last year of 422.

442
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

and fastest piston engine car.

Umm I think Burkland had a 450 mph run, exit speed at a WOS event. For sure Poteet fastest ever at Cook event, but not Piston Engine outright... They are very close with with a very large disadvantage on Cubic inches, or is it a disadvantage.

Speed Demon is running FIA rules:  A  I  10, that's A for special construction wheel driven vehicle, I (Roman numeral "one") for supercharged or turbocharged recipricating engine, and Class 10 for 5 to 8 liter (306 to 448 cubic inches---Speed Demon is 447 c.i.).
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Assen bike -- entry 246.5,  kilo 245.6, mile 248.  He's in the pit right now.

Andy and Erin (Andy riding) went 176.6 entry, 177.0 kilo, 177.0 mile.

Speed Demon is going back onto the track.  A rear seal came out of the trans but they'll run anyway.  About 20 minutes remain in the 1 hour window.  Fire has been notified -- they'll kniow what any smoke MIGHT be, and they'll also move their station a bit on the track to be able to help if needed.

As for classes -- Nearburg's team didn't know - just showed me the SCTA class on the tail -- A/FS.  Poteet and Main have a mildly hurt car and are thrashing.  Nish is in Cat. A Group 2 Class 11, the class that the Nearburg car broke the Summers Brothers record last year.  Mike Akatiff didn't remember his class.  Leslie is in the AMA M PS 2000 BF and Al is in M PS 1000 BF.

Poteet and Main is right in front of us and about ready to roll -- George is "hot to trot" per Mike Cook.

They're starting the Speed Demon engine now -- but it hasn't caught yet.  Checking the battery run from the push truck.  Duttweiler looking into the cockpit with George - cranking.  No start yet -- 23 minutes remain 'til they must break the light at the exit.

Electrical malfunction -- pushing the Speed Demon back to the pit.  Still hoping to get it fixed and make the run.  Nothing further yet.  About 21 minutes now.

For those who don't remember, for FIA a record attempt, comprising two complete runs, ends when the vehicle breaks the light on the way out of the timed stretch at the end of the second pass, and begins when the vehicle breaks the light on the way into the first run.

19 minutes remain.

Here's my guess:  When the car wasn't cranking I saw both Ron Main and Kenny Duttweiler were back and forth to the heavy leads from the support truck to the car.  They've fiddled and fiddled - and look like they're pushing the car out to the track now.  I'm going to guess they've had a failure in the electric starter and are going to push-start the car.  About 15 minutes left in the window.
