IMO I don't think the SCTA will ever allow a 2 up competition class. Regardless of how you feel, it would put an unnecessary risk which could put on all land speed racing.

We should all be watching with a lot of interst of the suing of the BLM by the families of the injured spectators at a off road race in the California desert last year when a truck went off track..I believe BLM has the last word in all of this...no permits....no racing....JD

To Jon A., this happened yesterday evening....... and no, I am old and grouchy...........
To Jon W., last Friday nine people died at the Reno Air Races.
Yesterday two racer's died in the Silver State Road Race.
The press eat's this stuff up.
We don't need unsafe incidents occuring on the Salt.
What would the BLM say if Rocky had died waiting for a ambulance?
  Thank God he is allright.

I repeat, ALL INVOLVED ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MESS.......................

Nearburg's team is re-setting for a return run.  Great looking (???) umbrella girl -- TommyRoberts shading Charles as he sits in the car     Hope Ray gets a photo of Tommy.  Ray's out there taking the photos.

The car was bouncing quite a bit as Charles drove it into the pits -- bouncing the front tires off the ground.  Hope his dental work is in good shape.

44 minutes remaining in the one-hour window.

The 1122 Nearburg car is on the track in the pits and getting ready for a return run.  Still have about 25 minutes or so.  They'll tow the car to the 1 1/2 or so - so that Charles doesn't have to worry about hitting the "ravine" under power.  The ravine, you ask?

That's the old salt brine ditch that goes southwest-northeast across the track at about the 1 1/4.  It's been worked on quite a bit during the past few days -- causes a big bump.  That bump might have been what helped hurt the Speed Demon -- the car elevated under power, spum the wheels, and got traction when hit the ground again.

Nearburg is on the way down the course to set up for the run.

I hear the Speed Demon engine firing up.

Nearburg car is running, going from the 1 1/2 (freeway end) to the mountain.  Car is moving out.

Off the push truck, through the two mile, now through the three and still accelerating.  At the four, nearing the measured stretch.

Entry speed:  349   kilo  362  mile 362  No decimal point numbers.

Numbers from the previous run were 370.2 and 370.2, which gives an average of about 366 mile & kilo for the attempt.  I don't have the number he needs or is trying to best.  Will have it soon.  Petrali will report the average and such soon.

Nearburg is at the 10 and slowing, now stopped past the ten. fire is there with him and gives thumbs up.

Next will be a couple of motorcycles -- Erin and Andy and maybe Assen.  It'll be a little while.  The bikes will run from the 1 1/2 towards the mountain.  Charlie and the two bikes are moving down the course to that 1 1/2 right now -- should run within 5 - 10 minutes.

Nearburg averages   366.590 kilo  366.374 mile.   These exceed the 1% required for a new record, so pending certification that'll be a new record.

In other news, the winds are starting to pick up a bit.  Because of this, Erin and Andy will run first, followed by Richard Assen - both running when they're comfy with the wind.

Assen added ballast - shot - to the swingarm.  I was there as they were pouring it in, tapping the swingarm with a bit of a hammer to settle the shot, adding some more, repeat.

Nearburg car is still on the racetrack - should be cleared off in a few minutes.  Stay tuned for the bikes.

Maybe some people that critisize people without knowing the facts ought to try & run a meet like this.I dont think Mike would do anything to to bring bad publicty to landracing or the salt. Also I dont think he is looking to start a new class for SCTA.

The two-up BMW is on the course now, running from the freeway end towards Floating Island.  They started at about the 1 1/2 (again, to avoid the ravine).

Entering the timed area:  Entry speed 182.8   kilo speed  182.3  mile 182.3

Winds are about 6 crosswind at the 3 1/2,  4 at the tower,  1 1/2 - 2 at the 9 mile.

BMW is now off the course, and Richard is ready - but holding off for 5 minutes for the wind to abate some.

Glen, this place is swarming with dang near dozens of spectators.  I'm too far away to ask Lynda - she'd have the best idea -- but if there's 100 I'd be surprised.

We're going to ask Nish and Speed Demon what the schedule is.  Speed Demon says they're ready to load the car on the trailer.  No decision on what's going to happen.  The three other bikes -- Leslie, Al Lamb, and Jamie Williams, are ready to trailer down to the 1 1/2 to run following Richard Assen, but no bike will run 'til the wind dies down.  Remember - that's why Richard is waiting and he's got first dibs on the course.

I gotta go ask the Nish team what's what.
