Yep.  I said it wrong.  Too many days in the sun.  :)  299 = "D", 347 = "C".

Can't seem to find them but don't the FIA engine class sizes differ from the SCTA?

Not positive but don't records only set at Speed Week, World of Speed and World Finals count for the records in the SCTA Rule book?

I thought all the "shootout speeds" were for FIA, FIM and personal best and advertising like the 2-up................

FIA

Class 8 -- 2 lier to 3 liter

Class 9 -- 3L to 5L

Class 10 -- 6L to 8L

Class 11 -- 8L & up

A long day out at the tower.  Didn't realize there were only 5 runs until the day's speeds were handed off on a USB memory stick from James Rice at Chronologic and posted on here.  Still, there was a lot of excitement when Richard Assen made his record pass.  At the first drivers meeting Mike Cook asked each driver and rider what speed they were shooting for.  Assen said 260.

You are correct. SCTA references are because we don't know different.  :-P

And that's it. Don't care what the car looks like.
Records at Bonneville are flying start 1km and mile. There are also standing start records from 1/4 mile through 5000 mile.

Dave Petrali, USAC VP of Testing Operations is with James Rice at the tower.  He's been able to answer my questions with some print outs of the criteria on the cars that came to run.  Warum einfach wenn komplizert geht's auch, as my Kraut forebearers said.

A lot of credit should go to Richard Assen's engine builder.  That motor made a lot of runs and held up well.  Quite an accomplishment.

Wobbly, the first run came from Floating Island to the freeway.  As Assen rolled into his pit, one of the crew turned on a leaf blower before the bike was in the chock and poked it into the front of the fairing behind the tire to continue cooling the motor.  They do that at both ends of the runs.

Bikes are about to run.

First up will be 1979, underway heading to Floating Island.  Looking to beat 225 mph.  The Lamb/Porterfield pit found some elect. problems overnight -- grounding on the data acq./ECU stuff.  Found and fixed -- wait for the speeds and we'll see.

Entering timed stretch:   entry  241   kilo  243  mile  242.9   Yup, sounds like they found whatever it was.
