Photos:

Camaro driver playing Dukes of Haphazard.  He was seen by a spectator leaving the area...I think he got rather ignominiously pitched off the salt.

A little crowbar work on the final drive...could this be part of the problem?

The little charger that couldn't.

Hard to show the sound of the engine exhaust, but there's a bit of rich exhaust coming outta the pipes.  This was when it started with the BIG charger.

I can't help but wonder if the failure might not have been as bad as it all seems.  First, the qualifier wasn't the 450 that George wanted.  Second, that drive problem may have been bigger than it appeared at first.  I'm just guessing, but it could have been a safety thing.

More info as I get it.

Slim, this blow by blow thing is way cool. I'm about 100 miles down wind & its blowing its buttoff here. Hows the wind there??
  Sid.

Wind has been near zero most of the day.  However, in the last half-hour, it's picked up to around 5-10 mph.

Any and all posts here on Landracing.com  in the past that have noted that being a passenger in a LSR sidecar is NOT SAFE......take a look at how the passenger is riding on the BMW.....at least in the sidecar we have several welded on handholds, not the driver/riders waist...................................................

I would certainly say that "insurance must allow it"  unlike SCTA/BNI "insurance will not allow it".........
(sidecar passengers)...

PS. Great reporting by all you people.............................
Question authority.....always

Slim:

Could you please advise the Rice Bros's FM frequency?  After a few days at home after WoS, I'm heading back that way from Boise in the morning, and I'd like to monitor it once I get near.

Thanks,
Jeff

I spoke with Mike (Owner of the Ack Attack) and he said they will make a run today later in the afternoon if the wind dies down however not a full boogie pass just a "tuning pass under 150 mph"

He also stated the wind had picked up and was hoping for a calm early morning run, as Mike said, with Poteet running 446 he can't say the course is no good.

The meet is over for the day.  No cars are able to/interested in running, and ditto for the bikes -- the wind is up too much for any real safe and fast runs.  Fire and ambulance have been released.

I'll pot this so you can do some work - then fill in more details about tomorrow.  (post)

Mike Cook says he'll be meeting with the riders and drivers about plans, and the fire and ambulance crews have been told to be back on the salt at 8 tomorrow morning.  More if I hear it.

Earlier Poteet ran 442.854 in the mile (someone wanted to know, James Rice just confirmed).

According to the Ugo Fadini LSR Models page on Tom Burkland, at the 2000 World of Speed Tom went 405.282 in the 4th mile, 438.815 in the 5th mile and terminal speed 450.225.

George Poteet has the fastest piston engine mile speed with 442.854. Was there an exit speed?

Don Vesco ran 459.921 in the mile with the turbine powered Turbinator.

Ron? George? Is it possible?

Hey, if any of you have friends out here on the salt, I'm done for the day and wandering through heaven on earth withy my begging bowl looking for swag for the Wendover museum in the works.  Ask your buds on a team if they have a signed T-shirt or poster, which can be left at the Landracing pit for Max.  Thanks.  I promise not to sell it on fleaBay, it's going into the mayor of Wendover's care before I leave town.

Poteet was reported at have a 446.000 exit speed. So with that in mind then Burkland will still have the fastest speed recorded for piston engine at 450.225 mph, Poteet and crew will have the fastest piston engine mile speed at 442.854 mph.

The fastest wheel driven mph will still stand with Vesco  Turbinator at 459.021 mile speed, and exit was 470.298 mph.

All makes sense right?
