I was concerned about his wrist straps being on him.

Nish is under way, on the course at the 2 and running well.  Sorry I didn't get any warning -- here he comes.

At the four mile and shut it off.  Is that white smoke - or salt spray.  Tower reports no smoke, idling and doing 130.  Sounds okay.

Nearburg car is running the engine here in the pits.

Here's the next bit -- Enola Gay cafe is about ready to serve lunch.  The Nish team has released the course.  Nearburg team is buttoning up the bodywork and is cleared to tow to the mountain end.  It'll likely be a half hour 'til they run.

Richard Assen is adding some lead to the swingarm.  All of the bikes are now sitting out the cars' turn, but may have time to run later this early afternoon.  Al Lamb says he'll run the M PS BF 1000 later today.  Leslie's bike is being tuned in the pit.  Erin and Andy are pleased with their run -- only a mile or two off, as a tandem/two-up, off the speed that Erin ran solo earlier today.

I talked with Scott Horner and Nancy's Ninjette 250 Turbo should arrive here at the pits at first light tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.  Some inspection and we'll start Nancy off with a tuning run.

The Ack crew is cleaning the bike a bit and readying it for transport.  Rocky is forecast to visit the pits later today.

Off to lunch at Enola Gay.  Thanks to Top One Oil for the free lunch tickets.

When I talked to the USAC official, I mentioned that the liner must have been going quite a bit faster than the 60 or so mph they'd planned to run.  He said, "It just got away from him."  So it seems that they WERE going quite a bit faster than 60, but nobody has ventured an opinion (that I know of) regarding the speed.

Mike Akatiff is supposed to make a statement later today and there may be more info available at that time.

One of the Ack crew, who I won't name 'cause he didn't give me permission -- says he thinks Rocky was going about 80 -- and this crew person was in the support truck and following.  But he went on to say -- "Rocky will probably be out here later, and since he was the oe driving the bike -- ask him."

Mike Akatiff is just arriving - left Land's End and is heading to the pits.  Further . . . later.

The Nearburg car is slowly towing to the mountain end, and the Nish car has just been returned to the pits.  I'll let 'em work on it before I go pester to ask what happened.  Report - later.

Bikes at speed:

Erin Hunter

Leslie Porterfield (NOT Linda Porterhouse as I heard her referred to yesterday)

Andy Sills and Erin Hunter (this photo just looks strange to me.  Maybe cuz I've never seen a 2-up racer before)

Richard Assen, who was really flyin...250 or so.

I don't wish to be over critical of the situation, but what in the hell were they doing going out after the ambulance was released from duty?
No matter what DID happen, what about the possibility of fire or a stuck throttle.
I can't believe Mike Cook allowed them to go out on the course.
The press could of had a field day.
All involved are to blame for this mess.....................  Bob (and get well Rocky)

Bob,

Are you ok this morning? I'm sure these pictures were from earlier, and not when everybody was at lunch or when the ambulance was released.//

I know this post will get a few replies........but this 2-up BMW circus act is stupid, not only that.. but it is downright dangerous.  I am really surprised that that Mike C. allowed it.....I can only think it must involve cubic dollars......They are racing in no known national or international class, just doing it for kicks and maybe BMW advertising...
