Richard Assen is ready to leave the far end.  I'll give you the numbers.  By the way, we just got buzzed by a low-flying aircraft -- likely Rocky's brother just saying goodbye -- he did waggle the wings as he went down the course.

Assen in under way.  On course at the 10 mile (next bike will be 968, Jamie Wagner), this is Assen's run.

Assen at the eight mile - entry speed 257   kilo  259.2   mile  258.9  That's good enough, they report -- take it to impound.  Will be something over 260.

968 will be next, running on a 216 record.  Bike 968 is under way.

Bike 968 is on the course, at the eight mile, through the seven, in the timed mile

entry  151 and slowing

Puff of smoke reported from the bike at about a mile and a half from the start, fire and ambulance rolled but he's okay, tower reports a puff might have been the engine letting go.  More soon.  Copurse is unlocked for now.

Glen, nothing since I posted a half-hour or whatever ago.  The trans. has been repaired, the driveshaft replaced, and they'e waiting for a couple of seals for the trans. to arrive from SLC.  Pretty smiley in the pit -- got hopes for more big numbers.

Speaking of smiles in the pits -- we can hear the shouting and cheering form the Assen pit from here - and we're about a hundred yards from them.

Speed Demon team just reported they want clearance to drive the course -- but only to return a computer mouse to the tower.  Still -- he did sound cheerful. . .

New pending FIM record for Richard Assen and his team:

Kilo   261.387   Mile 261.243

Ya-Hoo, per Drew Gatewood.  Per \Nancy and me, too.  Congratulations to all of the Kiwis!

In other stuff, Al Lamb may not change tire and still run on the qualifier he laid down this morning.  Will have to re-qualify.

More stuff -- on second discussion, Al could run on that qualifier with a replacement tire - if he replaced it with the exact same tire and wheel.  It's a Dunlop Sportmax GP 200/55 17 -- and nobody else out here has one, including Lamb's pit.  So -- new tire, new qualifying run.

Was wondering what motor and fuel is the Speed Demon running this weekend at the shootout? What is the existing record he is going for?

Poteen & Main are running in FIA class A-I-10, the I being turbo/supercharged, the 10 being 5 to 8 liter, the record being 406.321 mph.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

So - nothing is as constant as change itself.  Here's what I'm hearing now:

Speed Demon is for sure planing to run soon.  Ron was out aligning the cones for George to use as a guide when returning to the pit in the SD at the end of a run.  And Gary Garcia and Mike Jr. are polishing the course down here in the pits, too.  It's become a bit chopped up during the past few days.  I'll put photos here in a minute.  But first,to continue this dialog:

And now I hear that Nish isn't necessarily done after all, and they are working in the pits, body off the car.  No sign of putting it in the trailer and packing up the pit.

A bike just fired up in the Lamb/Porterfield pit --= likely Al's, with the new tire.  No confirmation on that, though.

They're celebrating (still) in the Kiwi pit, but maybe Richard will make another run on the record -- now his record, pending that cert., of course, this afternoon.

And we're still awaiting the turbo 250.  I hope we get done waiting before the event ends.  And yes, I'm about to enter the bike into WF.

As for audio -- nothing's going on, nothing' much on the radio (except taking turns deciding who's going to lunch next).
