8 Minutes remain, engine on the Speed Demon not running yet.  I can hear it cranking, though. . .

Must push off within the next five minutes or they won't make it, per James Rice in the timing tower.

Engine is running!!!  Must roll in six mutes or less.

Car is moving.  Car is off the truck and under way.

Past the mile and picking up speed.  Coasting at the two mile.

Nish Royal Purple is running FIA A II 11, Special construction, Blown, over 8 liter.

Spirit of Rett is A  II  10, described earlier for Speed Demon and the current record holder

Depending how things go, Nish may switch to A II 9, 3 to 5 liter.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Poteet and Main returning to the tower, and we'll be "unlocked" soon.  Nothing on the near-term horizon.  Assen is at least an hour away.  Leslie and Al are having Drew scrutineer their bikes now.  That's that for a while.

Per Drew - Leslie and Al will not run 'til tomorrow.

Here's what I hear from Ray, who was taking photos of the Poteet and Main car in the pits:

The car's data logging showed that on the down run, about an hour ago (now), the alternator was not charging the battery.  So they didn't have enough to start the car for the return.  They brought out a small charger/small generator to top off the in-car battery for the return, and it was charging well.  But they didn't have enough to start the car.  So they brought out a bigger charger (jump starter) to start it -- but that drew so much that they stalled the little generator.  So they ran for and brought out a bigger generator, which made enough for the big charger to start the car, and George left.  But then -- when the computer starting pulling big amps during the run -- there wasn't enough juice and things came to a halt.

At least -- that's the theory that we'll offer for now.  The car will be back in the pit in a little while and maybe Ray will get some more story for you.  He took about 700 photos (his words) while the car was down here -- let's see what he says when he posts.  In the meantime -- nothing going on for a while.  Go have a cold drink.  Gentle winds here in the pits - about 3-5 from the north, and temp about 75.  Gee, you oughta be here -- Nancy's enjoying the weather, just hanging out in the sun and getting some rays.  I'll look at her for you, guys.

A coupla quick things and then I'll get to some photos:  The engine in the Demon is 347 CID.  It's a C class SCTA motor.  They also had a leaking seal in the transmission and possibly a final drive problem...that one remains to be seen.

Just before George's run, there was a Camaro which had been given permission to drive from Land's End to the pits.  That was ok, except the driver decided to spin donuts before he got to the pits...in between the two locations.  This was just as they called the course clear for Poteet to make his qualifier.

I may have told SSS the wrong thing about the reason for George's abort on the return run.  A spectator told me that he heard the motor running, but apparently no final drive.  So what I wrote in the first paragraph may have been the reason for the abort.

The dork in the Camaro should be removed from the salt period.
