DUH !!!

Thanks Jon,

I didn't think about the 2 way runs. I guess I have a SCTA/BNI mentality.

Tom

Slim, Thanks for the news on Tom. I just got off the phone with Joe Hansen and he is going to have Tom call me.

Next up will be the Camaro, then the Bub bike, then Poteet and Main, then the Buckeye Bullet -- or at least that's how it stands at the moment.

Camaro is running and about to leave the 1 1/2 mile heading towards the mountains.  Car is under way.

Clicked it at the 4 -- engine is running but car in neutral.  Turning off the course towerds the mountains (okay -- not "issue" side).

Bub trailer loaded with bike just headed onto the course.  They're unloading here in the pits -- so will run to the mountains on the first run.  That's confidence in the turnaround -- they'll have to drive the trailer down to the 12 to do a turnaround, and that'll take about a dozen minutes out of their two-hour turnaround time.  The bike is now out of the trailer and being set into the rig that lifts it from the transporter dolly and puts it on the salt.  Probably 20 minutes 'til they're ready.

By the way, there may be a few minutes sometime in the next half hour when I can't make posts -- one of the officials has asked to borrow the computer so he can do something heneeds to do.  I'll try not to let you folks hang out there waiting for him to check his laundry tickets or whatever.

The measured section of the course is smack-dab in the middle -- giving the same amount of run-up in each direction.  So -- about 5 1/2 miles from the Zero to the entry of the time mile and then the timed kilo, then one kilo then one mile to the exit, then another 5 1/2 to the 12 (the other zero).

Missile is ready -- course is clear.  Engine not running yet, though.

Update:  Engine has been started.

Ooops -- on hold for a minute.  Hang in there - - -

Dang -- the Missile had some issue pop up and they're going to return her to the pits.  I'll let you know what's happening next.  I now hear that there was a vibration in the car -- when they started up at the 12 mile just now it was still there.  Curtis would put the clutch in and put the car in gear -- and the engine would die.  They'll bring it back here to work on it.

In the meantime I've heard the Speed Demon crew start up and run the motor for a few seconds at a time.

Some quick info on the Demon that came from Ron Main:  They're gonna run a 7.5 cylinder motor.  One of the pistons is damaged, presumably near meltdown on the top surface.  So they've mapped that cylinder to run extra rich to keep it cool while all the other cylinders are sunning the high output map.  This should be interesting.

The Demon crew was close to being ready, but the BUB team was totally ready, so they'll be the next to run.  The Camaro was a turnout, so in 20 or 30 minutes, BUB otta be running.

In other news, can ya picture a rat who can't keep track of mice?  I swear I put the cordless mouse for the laptop in the Burb this morning...but I was (and still am) a bit goofy from lack of sleep.  I can't find that damned mouse anywhere.  I've found almost every other thing I've lost lately, but not the mousie.  I may have to see if I can find one in Wendover if we get an hour or 2 of down time.  In the meantime, this d*mned touchpad is drivin me nuts...and has relocated the folder containing todays files somewhere in outer space.  I've only worked with computers for a little while (since 1966...no typo) but this one has been scheming against me all summer.  And it's only a coupla years old.  Ok...I need a nap...but ain't gonna get one.

(I just reached down for the mouse to click on the "Post" button...and...well, you know.

Demon just fired up the 7.5 cylinder motor.  Doesn't sound all that bad...sorta.

Let me correct myself about the bub support trailer.  They'll drop the bike here and leave before the bike runs -- to get to the other end in time to greet Chriss when he arrives.

He's just now sat down into the bike.  We're locking down the pit area and the entire Salt flats, getting ready to run.

The Speed Demon engine is running - sounds like it might be a tad off, just like Ray and I heard it might be.  The jet bike is getting all buttoned up -- has the bodywork on the tail (covering the engine).

Bub bike engine is running, canopy is down, moving out.

Released from tow rope, on his own.

Through the one mile and building speed.  Laying them down, to quote Junior on the radio.

Lynda reports through the two and coming fast.

CHUTE OUT at the 5 1/2 and slowing.  Off the side of the course, but looking okay.
