Is the crew of the Jet bike going to put the front part of the rear covering on? I looks like it would help a bunch by covering that bulhead and still keep from burning paint and body work...........JD

Hi, Carrie.  Your dad isn't back to the pits yet -- still at the timing tower getting some signed certificates for his last run -- when he went about 203 in the timed mile.  Congratulations to him and the crew -- his first-ever ride at over 200 on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The bike is done for this even now -- he's accomplished the goal he wanted, so they'll pack up and go home.

JD -- the engine produces enough heat that the bare metal wasn't able to sheild the vinyl sticker covering with the art and signatures and such on it.  They're running sand rear body, as you know.  I think that one of the winter projects will be (assuming they elect to continue the effort) to protect the bodywork from the heat.  I don't think they've got a third piece of body -- a front half of the rear part, to cover the bulkhead.  I'll wander to their pit (about 50 feet fromme) and see.  Of course -- it's a moot point since they're all done.

Carrie, You can be proud of your dad for his first landspeed event. I know this was a dream of his and now he can enjoy it. I think he did a great job for a team that does not have a million bucks to spend like some of the teams, but he used his head and took small steps to get up to speed. Maybe next year we will see 300mph. He may have damaged a few parts but he and the bike is in one piece and can race another day.

Well, Carrie -- I conveyed your words to him and he was happy to hear from you.

Now -- the Buckeye Bullet is about 3 minutes from starting another run.  They'll head towards us, in the pits, from the mountain end.  They're the last team running out here now -- the jet bike is back at the pit, Mormon Missile convoy is off the salt, Camaro is in the trailer, and other than that -- it's Land Speed Enterprises (Mike Cook's trailer and setup) and us.

Course is clear for BB, shutting the hatch on the driver (who's already inside).

Bullet is moving, pushed by the truck.  BB is away from the truck.

Through the one mile marker.

Through the five, entering the timed stretch.

Best run yet:

297.787 entry,

302.081  kilo

301.949 mile

Exit -- their fastest number yet -- 305.783!

YEE-hah!!

Since one Bullet shot is very much like another (well, those of it going thru the timed mile) I'll just post this one of it almost at the end of the mile showing vapor discharge from the vent tube on the side of the liner.

Carrie, we followed your Dad's build diary for months and months here on the Landracing website.  Land Speed Racing is mostly an amateur event and Mike shows that a regular guy can have a pretty big footprint.  Tell him he's got a lot of fans across the country who look forward to his return to Bonneville.

Git-er-dun Ohio!!

Ray,

Several folk have thanked me for my great shots and coverage of Bonneville.  :-D
I point them to you.  I can't work most cameras, let alone figure out where to point them.

To avoid confusion, I thought about using another name on this board.  But "McRat" has history behind it.
Back in the 1970's McDonalds wanted to expand out into the international market.  But they found that having a purely American menu was negatively affecting their sales.  So they added local items to their menu, like the McBorsche for Moscow, the McCabbage for Dublin, etc.
I was heavily invested in McDonalds International stock at the time, and as part of the stock option plan at the time, I acquired one of the international menu franchises.

It was for Saigon, and the rest is history...

"Two all rat patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun", keeps ringing in my ears. :x
