Buckeye Bullet trailer has reached the mid-point of the return road.  Roger (the driver) is in the car and being strapped in.  Winds are 2-3 mph down the course towards the pits (at least down here that's what they are).

Minor hassle -- a communications line got unplugged while the body panels were being installed, so they're pulling body and will refarbulate for a minute.

Bullet crew asking for a clear course.  Canopy is being lowered.  Start sequence has begun.  Crew is in the chase vehicle.

Car is under way.  Car is away from push truck and accelerating fast.

Through one,  through two. . .

Car is through the three and moving fastly (their word, not mine).

Coming into the timed mile

Entry   295.64

kilo  299.7

mile  299.64

Bummer but they won't quit yet. SSS, what time are shutting the course down for the meet.

The BB sounds so cool at speed, all you can hear is the air off of the car and the tires.

Re: Buckeye Bullet...
I'm amazed that a high tech crew can't come up with a better method than running to the corner market for ice.
For instance: a home freezer in a van loaded with dry ice and/or regular. They sure have enough electric energy to keep it going.
Is this the same crew that couldn't figure out that the meet is favoring air breathers, rather than battery powered? Air density, etc.
Also leaving batteries stored overnight at 40+ and wondering why they couldn't get a decent return run early in the AM.
Still wish them much success!
Jim

Here are three shots -- Bullet leaving the zero two runs ago, and the tracks left by the car:

And here's a set of pictures showing the story of why the Mormon Missile's last run was aborted:

I don't know for certain about Jet Bike Mike, but I thought he wanted to make another run.

Bullet is gonna run again in about 20 minutes

Morman Missile has thrown in the towel.

Mormon Missile has offricially called it a year.  The damages are more than they want to fix so late in this event (today's the last day) so they'll go home and fix things and come back again next year.  Best wishes and congratulations from Nancy and me to the entire team.

About the Buckeye Bullet -- they DO have large ice-making capacity out here.  A large reefer-type semi trailer and a free-standing ice making machine, too.  They simply exhausted the capacity of the on-site equipment, finally, and had to resort to a stand-by source.  Jim, you should have been here in person to see how they worked to avoid the problems you've just mentioned.  They're pretty well organized now.

The Bullet is done with the refit in the pits, body panels are being put on, and they've asked us to clear the course and the pits for their return run.

Jet bike is ready to run -- waiting for the Bullet to finish leaving the pit so they can go make their next run.

In one of Ray's pics a few days ago you can see an ice machine in their pit.
SSS beat me to it

The Bullet is off the transporter and on the ground, ready to go.  Canopy is going down.

Need to beat 300 by a few to get an average over 300 (with that 299+ down run).

Jet crew will follow the car down to the 4 mile (although a bit slower, I imagine).

Vehicle is under way.

Geeez, hat a whoooooosh as he went by.  Quite a hair-raiser.  Won't forget that noise. . .

At the two and haulin' azz (Land's End Lynda quote).

Through the three.    Through the four.

Entering the timed stretch.   Entry speed    294.515

kilo   298.5

mile  298.401

exit  301

Dang.  Not quite enough, but will re-cycle and try again in an hour and a half or so.  Never give up!  And Mike Cook says "We're here for you".

Jet bike has moved to the course -- will start from the four mile.

I'd post another photo, but they're pretty much the same as the last batch...I'll see if I've got one with the chute deploying.

No one said it was easy, they have been trying all week with a ton of uphill items to over come. Their efforts are fantastic and they still have a chance for a couple of more runs.

The same for all who have given it their best during the week. Hoping the jet bike can get in a good run and have a chance to see what they hoped for.

Mike Cook and all of the volunteers who have given their time to assure the event was well run as well as the up to the minute reports and photos. Great job all of you and hope to see everyone at the world finals in a few days
