Official numbers:

341.360 kilo,

341.167 mile

Those are the averages of both runs.  The old record was about 314 kile and 315 mile.  Now I'll go try to get a class designation for you.  The Canadians next to me got some video of the spin - and still shots, too.  I don't know if I can get them into the computer -- will see if he can email 'em to me tonight.

Mormon Missile sets a new FIA diesel record (pending certification, of course)!!!!

Not bad for a bunch of hotrodders.
I'll bet there is more in it if they have enough time, sure hope so and they get the JCB record as well.

I hope so. I'm getting e-mail updates from my friend but haven't gotten one since an hour or so ago. This site seems to be quicker!   ;-)

Congrats to all involved!!!

I believe the goal is to outrun the JCB Dieselmax, which is a twin-engined diesel streamliner that claims to be the world's fastest diesel.  Not sure what class or record though.  I've heard it ran 350mph, but not sure if that's a "best speed" or actual record.

The Bub bike is anxiously awaiting wind speeds to make a run. They've been at the 12 mile since first thing this morning.  Wind is about 5-8mph into the left front corner of the bike as he would be heading this way.  No reports on wind on the other parts of the course.

I don't know just how fast is the JCB record.

Bub is starting the engine to put some heat in it.  Maybe run within 10-15 minutes, but no promises yet.  Speed Demon crew is delivering lunch to the tower -- gotta feed them guys.

Bub isn't on the ground yet, per Drew Gatewood, who's down there with them.  Ready to lower it and run the engine for a minute or three.

I just looked it up.  Dieselmax record is 350.092 per their website.  That's within shooting distance for the Missile, hey?

Just checked the FIA record list on their web site.   Looks like Mormon Missile runs in Cat A, Group III, Class 10.  They broke their own records.

Only faster diesel is the JCB liner that ran in A/III/11 at 350.452 in kilo and 350.092 in mile.

Translation -
Cat A = unlimited (  e.g. Streamliner ),
Group III = blown diesel,
Class 10 = displacement over 5000cc up to 8000cc,   . . . . and class 11 is over 8000cc.

They just fired up the jet bike -- about 100 feet from me.  nancy was napping on the back deck of the pickup.  I don't think she's still sleeping.  Wooo, what a sound -- whine as it spins up, then PLOOOSH as they put the fuel to it and light it off.  I gotta go take a photo or three.

Jim Benning, photographer, just handed me a thumbdrive with photos of the Missile's spin.  Here are a few -- I'll get 'em all on the site soon.

From the 12 mile:

Well...the Missile being towed back was about at the 10.

Bub fired up, ran until it ran outta gas...or nearly so.

Chris Carr is checking wind speed.  Team members are on the way to the 11 mile to check some anomaly on the course.
