The Buckeye Bullet is in the pit -- I got photos but it'll be a minute.

Entry 293,    kilo speed 298.898 mph    mile speed 298.776  mph      exit speed 303.574 mph.

They'll be ready for a return run in about 45 minutes.

Nice run!

On Monday, Mr411Fan commented on the horsepower of the Goldenrod and I thought I'd add a bit of trivia:

I'm no engineer, but, being around streamliners and engineers awhile, I would say that you would need around 2500-3000hp (reliable hp) to achieve these speeds in the 400-450 range.  Summers Bros. was around 2400hp.

Originally, the four Chryslers in the Goldenrod were built to run on gas and were expected to make 600 hp each. However, when the Summers boys missed their construction target weight of 6000 pounds by more than 2500 (!), they switched the Hemis to alcohol to compensate for the new 8650 running weight. At the time of the '65 record, each engine was actually making just under 800 hp.

Thanks to Slim, Nancy, Ray and everybody else for keeping us updated!  :-)

Buckeye Bullet has been turned around and is being transported to the Zero for the return run.  I've got photos -- but am pit steward and have to go secure the pits.  Back in a minute.

Bullet is in the two mile, looking good.

At the four.

Entry speed:   296

kilo   301

mile 300.992

exit  304

Here's the car leaving the pits.

About the Summers Goldenrod....

I'm a little bit confused about Bret's note.

Correct is that the Goldenrod run on Methanol which was supplied by Mobil Oil.....

To the weight.....all information in different published books or brochures showing a weight of 2700 and 2720 kg - which is app. 6000 pounds - this numbers are also in the Walter Korff book and in the official brochure which was available after the record.

The same we got with the hp - the most of the informations showed a power output of 610 hp to 650 hp - the 650 hp is shown in the Korff book. This guy worked on the aerodynamic and also he done with his team a lot of calculations on the Goldenrod.

I would be very interest on which source your (Bret) information based - may be I miss some printed articles which I got not in my archive.....let me know.

and for the Shootout...go for it....great to read what's going on.....and d a m n...that I can't be there....

They're running against the BB2 record from the 2007 FIA meet.  The flying Kilo record is 132.378 mph and the flying mile record is 132.129 mph.

The speedweek record is from the Buckeye Bullet 1, while running on batteries (as opposed to the BB2 on hydrogen fuel cells), both are electric traction driven.

i'd say 299 is just a little over 1% faster.

congratulations, buckeye crew!

what a bitchen looking car!

The 757 Camaro just ran a 250 on one of the testing runs.  There's a heck of a wind here at the pits -- about 10-15 towards the freeway.  No word from the Bub bike team -- but from what I've seen -- Chris won't want to run 'til the wind dies down.

The area is open now -- bullet going to the truckstop to get weighed (weight is a factor in the class), Missile still wrenching, jet bike pulled out on the trailer a while ago (don't know where they went, but part of the body of the bike is still in their pit).  The saltmobile folks are still giddy with excitement, Speed Demon is quiet in the pit.

That's it right now.

Is there a class for it in the 200 club?? in any assoc.

The first thing I would ask the 200MPH club is if they recognize FIA and FIM records. If so, then I see no reason for the person not to get the hat.
