Return run shot at the 5.25  There was a bit of a tailwind on the down run and that became a headwind on the return...might have been just enough to account for the speed differential.

I found out for sure a couple of days ago -- by asking the BB team.  The story I gave you a couple of minutes ago is what they told me then and what I posted then.  I will ask the FIA folks when I see them -- just to confirm.

Hey slim, could you find out for sure.  I know the FIA record was open, as they set BNI with BB.  BB2 uses electric motors powered by the fuel cells instead of by batteries.  Did not think it was a different class.  At least it was not in SCTA events.  E3

Jim

The SCTA dosen't separate electric records, so batteries and fuel cells fall into the same class.  The FIA has separate categories for these, so this week the BB2 is not in the same class as the BB1.  Before this week, the previous record was 132.378 mph in the flying kilo (132.129 mph in the flying mile), set by the BB2 in 2007 (while trying to sort through a number of problems)  Record before that was something like 88 mph.  The battery record for the FIA still stands at 245, so the fastest FIA record will be the fuel cell one when it becomes official.

http://www.fia.com/sport/Regulations/Records/lists.html

Update: I mean the fastest electric FIA record will be the fuel cell one.

Thanks kponz.  Not up to speed on all of the FIA categories.  Excellent accomplishments all around!
From the link:

Group VII : Solar powered
Group VIII : Electrical engine
Group IX : Turbine engine
Group X : Steam engine
Group XI : Hybrid engine
Group XIV : Fuel Cell engine
Unloaded weight
1 - Up to 500 kg

Interesting to seperate them.

Quick note.  The Mormon Missile how has direct drive.  They removed the clutch and had a machine shop in Wendover do some stuff so now it's basically a multi-speed in/out box.  They're gonna push it up to speed and Curtis will try to match revs and get it into first.  He'll shift clutchless after that.  Course marshals might wanna be prepare to pick up some parts, although I sure hope that doesn't happen.

I'd love to see the Missile team get JCB's record.  That would be another case of a relatively low-budget team overcoming a huge factory effort, not unlike Poteet & Main breaking the BAR-Honda record last year.  Besides...they brought the record back to the USA.  Not that I'm overly xenophobic, but I like to see the records set my Americans.

One last thing...I used up all the ink in my backup printer last nite printing copies of the Bullet.  Been a heavy printing session.  I should have everything back to normal by WF.

R the R - One thing to keep in mind with JBC vs Mormon Missile comparison. The JBC Team were after a record for business purposes to showcase their products and capablilites and could not afford to have "incidents" that would tarnish their products reputation - balls to the wall was, I imagine, not an option. They accomplished their plan and so has the Mormon Missile - more power to each of them. Its always good when the home team does the job. Pat

Agreed, Pat.  Totally different motivation/methods.  Still...that home team thing would be pretty kool.

It's 9.40 Bonneville time.  Here's the update:

Mormon Missile is running the trans through the gears (up on blocks, Curtis in the cockpit).  Testing, testing.  They're forecasting an hour and a half.

Buckeye Bullet needs to go to town to get ice -- will be at least an hour before they can try again.

Jet Bike is a half-hour from trying to light it up, another half hour or more 'til they're ready to go make a run.  Get some work done -- we'll be here waiting andwatching for you.

LSE canopy and compound being torn down and packed up.  bub bike has now left the salt.  Everyone else is gone, too.  Honey Bucket has not picked up their units, though.

JCB also spent over 10 million dollars to accomplish their goal...I am sure MM is quite below that figure..

Each run uses about 300 lbs. of ice, so I hope the Smith grocery has enough...

Have I missed something or has the jet bike only had two runs?

When is the official start/stop on the turn around time?
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

If MM is running a Tex, Jerico, etc trans they tell you not to use the clutch. Just lift slightly and shift. I'm not sure for Turk but that's how we shift our Tex. Depending on there lowest gear it maybe a problem leaving the push truck, may need to jam it in. I still would just squeeze the throttle after the shift with the torque of a diesel...................Best of luck
