I think some re-engineering is required.

I think P&M have caught about the only lucky break (bad choice of words, maybe) of the week.  Nothing (apparently) is broken.  As Kenny Duttweiler explained it to me, the plate that holds the shift actuators in place shifted (another one) slightly and when George attempted to go from 2nd to 3rd, the transmission went out of 2nd, but due to the movement of the actuator plate, couldn't engage 3rd.  It ended up in neutral, instead.

They're preparing to run again.

I heard last year the cost of the meet was $40,000.
The cost to the competitors was how many showed up to split the costs.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Glen, I think most of us are just gee whiz at this whole thing and want to know numbers just to satisfy curiosity.

Run at the Shootout? Man we all dream of it. Knowing some of the information just helps us with our impossible dream list.

Bucket list? They don't make buckets that big, do they?

Back to Speed Demon.  The latest, delivered by John Levie, is that the shifting problem isn't solved - but there's a workaround.  If it won't shift to third -- George will follow the 1 - 2 - 4 - 5 shift pattern for the next run.   The car is not on the transporter yet but will soon be there.

Whoops, never mind, Ron Main just reported that they're done, packing it up and packing it in.  We're down to one racer -- Al Lamb.

What a shame they gave it all they had. Give them credit for trying every trick and part they had in the box.

Hi everyone.
Returned from home physician yesterday after spending most the evening Monday in Salt Lake ER. Doing pretty good but sore as hell. CT scan of spine showed no fractures though things did get moved around a bit. Major muscle strain and spasms. Got home and my shoulder was sore so went and had it looked at. Shoulder is broken in several places including clavicle and shoulder itself is broken and pulled away in places. It appears the shoulder harness broke everything, but I'm thankful because the bulk of the force hitting upside down was lessened by the harness. Had it failed I would have broke my neck for sure. Had some of the crew over last night and talked about it. Was only going around 100 or so (Buzzy in support truck was doing 80 and said I was pulling away. All we were trying to do was spin the tire to see if it would override the new traction control. Motor was laying down most the way and then all the power seemed to come on all at once, lighting the rear tire which shot to the left. I tried to correct and got it to lift but it swung the other way and caught and went into the air highsiding. It hit really hard upside down then tumbled violently. The good part is I can still talk about it. Thank you to everyone who've called or emailed me and my family. This tsuff happens and we all accept it. Hope it doesn't hinder my golf game. lol!

Rocky, so glad you are OK. A lot will be learned from this and maybe shoulder restraints as well. The safety is learned from information such as this. You take care.
