I remember reading on here last year that the Speed Demon crew was going to make some changes to the back end of the car. If I remember correctly it was stated that "they were going to cut off he back of the car and start over" I assumed they meant something along the lines off the rear end or suspension etc. I do see that they have two totally different rearends and that the one is for the four cylinder but I was wondering if they did any major changes with the back end of the car ? Thanks in advance!

I would like to complement the designers of the Speed Demon car, to be able to switch between several motors in such a short time means that a lot of thinking went into the car design to make it possible to do the engine changes in such a timely manner.

The next thing is the crew, they are what I call "Racing Dogs"!!! Which is a real complement. They do what ever it takes to make it happen. George and Ron get all of the press the crew gets the satisfaction of knowing "their" car is the fastest engine driven car in the world!!!

GREAT JOB!!!!

Here's my first report for the day.

First of all, Al Lamb and Richard Assen are at the "bike start line" (the 1 1/2) and will run, in that order, once the wind dies down even more.  Assen has the new big tailpiece on the 519 bike and want minimal crosswinds before he gives it a run.  Lamb goes first.

Post -- but Lamb is running.

Lamb is off the line, accelerating -- but shooting a few ducks -- can hear it from three miles away.  Popping and farting a bit (engine -- don't know about his dietary condition, but he did eat with the crowd at Carmen's last night).

Timed mile:  entry  246.9   kilo  248.3   mile 247.9 and on the rev limiter.

Would that be Littleton, CO?  If so you are welcome to stop in and check out our shop as we are just up the road on I-25.

The Speed Demon engine #3 is in the car and just started for the first time (in this event, at least).  Sounds okay -- but like it's running on four cylinders.

Seriously, they've got the motor in and the car is up on the wheels used to get it into the transporter.  No firm guess, but they offered that they might be ready to leave the pit within 20 minutes.  As always, caveat emptor but be forewarned.

Assen still waiting for the wind to go away, Lamb is on the 2-hour clock, and the Ninjete 250 Turbo of Nancy's is officially scratched for this event.  Topo much Lucas, not enough copper.  WF, here we come!

Want me to go to the SD pit with the 2-way radio and key the mic so you can hear the engine?  Good idea -- will do so.

Well, didja hear it?  It's loud enough that I can't tell if the two-way is busy when I key it - so maybe I stepped on Cook or someone, maybe you heard it.  A couple of the fellows in the pit, including Kenny D., are tuning and testing and getting it ready to run.

Lamb is refueling the bike prep. for a return run, Assen still waiting for the wind to abate.

Lamb is on the course now, on course at the eight mile.

Kn the timing strap  entry 243.1   kilo  242.5  mile 242.8

Looks like a 245 average today, vs. his yesterday 241.819 record.  Those are kilo numbers.

Assen will now try a run, they say.

Audio is being run from the tower by James Rice.  He's busy with his real job, but I'll let him know if the audio is still out.

Assen's bike is being warmed up for his run -- wind is down to zero.

Speed Demon is being loaded onto the trailer.

Course is clear - send Assen.  Bike 519 is moving.  Heading to Floating Island from the pits.  Trying out the new tailpiece -- a Charlie Toy appearing thing, but longer.  We can hear Richard going through the gears two miles away, and the engine -- the same old one he'd been running all year - sounds fine.

Big tail wag at the three and a half, off the throttle at the four.  Going through the five, back at speed, entry 200.5   kilo 207,  mile  204, exit 197.  So much for that tail, hey?
