What we're hearing is what is being sent out over the broadcast?

Sounds like you have more than one mic open.  Are you running a direct line out?

Doesn't sound like you're coming directly out of the mixer.  Any aux outs?

Not trying to second guess this effort - I just work in the business.  Either way, this is perfectly wonderful.  A THOUSAND THANK YOU'S!

Man, this is cool beyond belief!  When we left WOS last month, we were able to pick up the radio signal for about 40 miles.

Hee's what going on - and why it doesn't sound as good as you and I would like.

The audio is not getting to the internet connection the correct way - yet.  Right now it's pretty much a microphone lying on the desktop and "overhearing" Scott, the announcer, and the CB with Glen on it.

So what we'll next try to do is find the XLR female to RCA cable so we can get the audio straight from the mixer into the 'puter.  That'll give us good sound from Scott.

Then it's find a way to get the audio out of the CB and into the 'puter, too.  We'll farkle up a speaker line out to 'outer in wire (might have to mess around with impedance matching), and that'll go to the 'puter.

Of course -- then, with two audio feeds, we'll need to run a mixer before the computer (which is just a Netbook, by the way) to get the levels about what they oughta be.

If we could get the audio out of the PA amp and into the netbook that'd work -- but that amp is pretty aged and doesn't have many outputs -- especially ones that aren't in use now.  And then, if we did -- we'd have the music that's running in the background all day long today.  The comments I've already seen here are that you folks are more interested in hearing motors than Frankie Valli.

Now if I could get hold of a UHF handheld so we could hear the FM -- nah, there's not that much that's of real interest to anyone but the officials.  So I'll work on that last, if at all.

As you may have heard -- we're down for a "wind" hold -- about 18 mph of wind across the course.  The weather doesn't look all that much like the wind will slow down soon, either.  Stay tuned.  I'll post and keep thinking of how to get the audio better.

But hey -- it's WORKING!  Yee-hah!!

Should someone tell them we can hear everything everyone says?  I bet they don't know all of this is being brodcast.

Yes -- sounds like a mike is open, doesn't it?  I was up there -- couldn't find that open mike.  Just now Scott made an announcement about the 20-22 mph winds -- and it barely was audible on the internet yet strong through the FM radio.  It's so dang windy up there - and crowded with four or five people, since it's the timing slip stand -- that I don't want to shoehorn in and mess up their jobs.

Chris, no, we're not running a line out -- that's the problem.  No wires with the right thingies on the ends, you know.  We'll finger it out sooner or later.

Is the mic in the computer itself still on?  That's the default mode, and you may have to physically go in and switch it to the mic jack input.
