Yup, Ryan is here -- just saw him taking a bike out of the trailer - for inspection.  Still more folks arriving this morning -- saw Joe Amo driving into the inspection area.  And -- we're running!  We're racing!!  Just say no to wet weather.

Here are this morning's first photos for you:

The Enola Gay Cafe -- is the food vendor for the event.  It's owned and operated by a couple of local couples, and they served the food at WoS -- so they've got some idea of how nice we racers are.  Anyway -- here's a shot of the main booth, with Jasie smiling for everyone, and then there's the eating area.  Eat your heart out, boys and girls -- soft-cushion chairs!!

Here are a few vehicles found just now in the tech lines.

It's usually difficult to get good photos showing the clouds and the mountains -- but this one looks pretty good:

Danny Thompson is running right now in the Mustang -- 233 in the first mile, 200 in the second and (obviously) shut it down.  I'll give cars and speeds here and there through the day, and I really will get you run logs after each days' runs.  Starting tomorrow I'll also have the record return runs and the vehicles that have backed up their records.

Man I hate sitting here at my desk instead of sitting in line getting ready to make a run.

Jon and Ray -

Again, great coverage!!!.
If you get a chance, ask the Hudson Boys what engine they are running in the 993 Geo.  And wish them luck with the first official runs by a J/GC.
Now I'll have an official J/GC record to shoot at when my Junk is finally done.

thx    Art

The Hudson Boys are in impound with the 993 -- 133 in the mile.  Salt Cat is in imound, too -- 179 mph with the legal (in everyone's opinion) head.

Seth Hammond's son is making a licensing run in the #77 -- 138 mph and "did everything right".

Papi (Steve Chappell) reports it is wet out there, especially between the three and the four.  He pedaled it -- 182 mph.

As for the 1000 P/P match racing -- not only is there Andy Sills, but also Jeannie Pflum/Jamie Wagner, and I think another one, too.  I haven't been able to pin down whose it is.  Andy is at the fuel truck and ready to run.

The Hudson Boys #308 lakester is just leaving the line, and runs 164.035 in the 2 miles, 185 at the 2 1/4, looking at a 203 record.  193 in the third mile, qualifies at 206 in the middle mile and 211 in the last mile.

Jeff Brock in the cool 'ol Buick is on the course -- #1503 -- running 70 in the 2, 134 in the 2 1/4, 136 in the third mile.  That's a qualifier on a 134 record.

Down for a couple of minutes -- photocell is acting up, says Glen.

Driver's meeting was held right on time...just one course will be used at the moment...maybe tomorrow there will be 2.

First car was the Salt Cat Jag, the Papi on his Kawasaki.

A few more

Nebulous Theorum III running a flathead V8; I think they're after the Flatfire record..or maybe their own...

John Stege's 1350 sidecar..I think he lost some parts on course after this run.

The "Lickety-Split" 31 Model A coupe, running in Vintage 4 Flathead/Blown Vintage Gas Coupe.  Makes me dizzy just tryin to type that out.

Finally, the Blown Model T-motored liner...the information about which I've totally spaced.  Duh.

More to come

Okay, everyone, breaktime is over -- back on your heads.

A bunch of runs later -- and we're up at the line.  At least 4 bikes in P/P 1000, I've finally figured out.  Two BMW S1000 RR -- Andy Sills and Faulkner-Livingston.  A GSXR 1000 -- Faulkner Livingston.  Jeannie Pflum on a Honda CBR1000RR, and maybe one more but I haven't figured out yet who that is.

We've been in staging.  Here's part of what we've seen, as well as a few from earlier in registration.  Look at the wet salt under Papi's P/P 1650 Kawasaki:

Back to what we saw in registration:

Here's the Salt Cat in impound:

Streamliner in staging, as well as other vehicles. . .

I'll get some more on here in a few minutes.

Last group for a little while as I go nose around impound...and get a bite to eat.

A coupla really kool flathead bikes.

The 45 North Aviation liner and

the #7169 bike...but more importantly, notice all the people (including a young kid) standing real close to the starting line, well past where they otta be.  It makes it hard for photographers, but it'd be even worse if someone blows up big time at the line (seen it happen) or loses control or....I shudder to think.

Danny Thompson, in the 2115 Hajek Racing Mustang, just ran 252 and qualified -- then got upside down about the 4 1/2.  He's out of the car and okay -- but we'll be down for about 45 minutes (that'd be about 20 'til 2 Utah time).

We saw him going at major boogie -- throwing up quite a rooster tail of spray as he went down the course.  No big deal there -- it's not perfectly dry.  We heard the speeds -- then a course worker said "He's upside down".  Now it's time for everyone to wonder and speculate about why he ended up on his head.  If I hear a real reason -- I'll tell you.
