Ray,

Great job keeping all of us informed on what's happening out at the great white dyno!!  Unfortunatly, we had to head home Sunday, but on the plus side, the storm last night helped clean most of the salt off the truck and trailer.

I will be keeping up on all the happenings for the remainder of the week, right here!!

So again, thank you for all your efforts!!

Not being as hard core as my good man Ray we spent saturday on the Salt and then returned to civilization and our jobs and such. None the less we did take some photos and avoided a sun burn this year.

photos are up at www.thanks2frank.com.

Enjoy,

Scott

Speed Demon just made a nice run --
416.539 fifth mile, 426.910 exit speed   Whoooo-Hooo!!

By the way, the website worked for me each time I tried it today -- but there've been hour-long stretches when i wasn't near the machine.  Sorry for any interruptions -- but keep sending notes to me when you have problems with it and I'll try to stay up to date.

A coupla quick updates.  The 911 Cummins-Beck-Davidson-Thornberry roadster came up a bit short on its qualifier...ran about 294.  George Poteet just ran again and turned 416 in the final mile and 421 out the back.

More photos in a minute...I had to switch cameras.

In the program, the Speed Demon is listed as a C/BS...on gas.  But I think a class record is immaterial to 'em.  They want the top speed of the meet and the overall speed record, even if they can't get an FIA record at this meet.  They (Poteet & Main) have their names on the last 2 entries on the Hot Rod Trophy and REALLY want 3 in a row.

Here are some more starting line photos.

Way to go Speed Demon!
On a different note, we have a good friend, Bill Service, that has had a tough, tough year. He has spent most of the past year in and out of rehab and the hospital getting an artificial hip taken out. He sat in a wheelchair, without a hip, for months, waiting for the infection to clear up. The new artificial hip is in but he's still in a wheelchair waiting for it to heal. Motivation to race got him through much of the tough time and he is on the salt this year, in his wheelchair, with a friend doing the driving! The driver is licensing up and just completed his second run, the fastest run ever. 172 and change. It was a little lean, they richened it up and are back in line. Bill has always said his car is not competitive in it's class so each speed increase meets personal goals just fine.  Car #4010 1949 Plymouth 3-win coupe.

a coupla shots of Richard Thomas' Eldorado-powered Farmall pickup..or something like this with "Pigs on the Wing." (apologies to Pink Floyd.)

The time has come, the walrus* said,
To talk of many things.
Of shoes and ships and sealing wax,
Of cabbages and kings,
And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings.

I was in line for quite a while yesterday - but by the time I was third from the front - - there was a course hold for some work on the lights and I couldn't wait - had to get out of line to start setting upfor Salt Talks.  But while I was in line -- here are some shots of who else was in the course #2 line.

And finally -- our own bike:

Okay, back to other stuff.  Thanks for staying tuned, ladies and gentlemen.  By the way, if you're out here on the salt -- stop by our pit in the next few hours and we'll give you a heck of a deal on the uncooked burgers and hot dogs left from Salt Talks.  The food is on ice but won't last for much longer.  Donations to the site in exchange for food -- a heck of a deal.

Some long lens speed shots.  First one shows that the air is a little too hot for me to shoot across 2 courses (I'm on the freeway side of Course 2, the short/long combo course)
