The 757 Camaro is going down to about the 1 1/2 to run five miles -- simulating a long course run.  The jet bike is going to leave the pits and go out a couple of miles to do a test burn for a 1/4 - 1/2 mile.  He'll run off to the side of the course, gaining enough speed to see if the bike handles.  We'll follow the bike down and get some photos and give some comments.  It'll be a little while -- the bike is still in the pits.

Sometimes "informal records" are the sweetest.  Being A/III/FS(?) FIA is excellent, but "World's Fastest Diesel" just seems to roll off the tongue a bit sweeter.  Hopefully they can squeeze some more out of it.

Regarding Jl222's question about barometric Pressure - Airports report the equivalent Sea Level Pressure (in this case the 30.39 you see in slim's post) for the purpose of allowing pilots to set altimeters. The pressure you see printed on your timing slip at Bonneville is the "station pressure" (usually shown as S.P. on the BNI timing slips I've seen) which is the actual pressure measured at that location and gives the 25 and 26 inches Hg  numbers we've all seen. The atmosphere gives up about one inch of mercury pressure for every 1000 ft altitude, so the 30.39 sea level pressure , less 4.2 in Hg for the 4200 ft altitude of the salt would give a Station Pressure of about approximately 26.1   Clear as mud? (er...Brine?)

Message for Mike Cook:  If you hear on the news that there is a wildfire in Norco, CA near your house, it's on the other side of the 15 freeway and approx downwind.  Nothing to be concerned about.

I thought the SArno car was 347.

Whatever -- we've just escorted the jet bike down to the 5 1/2 or so.  He'll make a 1/2-mile test burn to see handling and salt damage (from the metal wheels) checkout.  The bike will run with front body and canopy but no bodywork on the tail section.  Fire and ambulance crews are here to stand by.

The Bub crew is asking when they can run -- now have to wait for the jet, but at least they're about ready.

Escorting the jet mike at 8 mph for 5 miles -- is the slowest I've ever driven on the salt.  Dang, it's sorta boring, you know. . .

You are right JD
They sold the car a couple of years ago.

Re Barametric pressure.  I recorded a very consistent 25 to 25.5 inches Hg over about a 12 year period.

OH, on the salt of course

Jet bike is ready to run.  Driver is suited, in the bike, canopy on, spinning the motor but not starting it yet.  He'll run a half-mile.  It's his first-ever pass on the Salt -- has run the drag strip before, but not on this surface.  Cook followed behind as they were towing the bike -- the front wheel was on the salt and leaving no noticeable grooves.  That's a good thing.

Spinning up the engine, fuel to it, lit the fire, getting ready to go.

Shut it down -- didn't move.  Removing canopy to see why he clicked it.

Battery truck backed up to the bike again.  Hooking cable up.  Spinning motor and it's lit.

Since things are a bit slow, here are some shots of stuff going on here and there.

Chris Carr indulging in his favorite pastime, measuring wind velocity.

The anemometer read 2.4 when I walked around to the other side of it.

Mark, Ron, Kenny and an unidentified crewmember are getting the Speed Demon's transmission back in.

They rebuilt it earlier today.  (In this shot, Kenny Duttweiler is doing some fine tuning.)
