Thanks Jon - Nancy - and Deb for all the updates. You must have blisters on your fingers by now. Kudos to Rex and his timing crew, and all the BUB volunteers for puting on a fun filled event. Every year it gets better and better. Most of all a big time thanks to Denis Maning for creating a motorcycle only event on the salt. All the LSR people I have met the last several years at Maxton, and Bonneville are the nicest, coolest people on the planet. Hope to see some of yaz at Maxton in Oct.

Well done to the BUB team for a great job this year - I speak for all the folk in our pit area in congratulating the BUB folk for a job well done.
I never fail to be humbled by the generosity, friendliness and presence of legends when at the salt.
It is a big effort - and cost - for us 'down-unders' to travel halfway round the world to come to these events and it could not be done without the support of our contacts here in the USA - thanks a heap

Greg Watters, myself, Fireman Jim, Staytie, Jason Swan and all the other bods in our pit area left the event really satisfied with the whole deal - our fast times, new friends and three 201mph club hats.

John Noonan and Jason McVicar have always inspired me and I really felt I was in the company of great riders last week and the event wouldn't be the same without you guys - oh yeah and now Leslie too - she's really teachin the guys a thing or two now.

Hopefully we will catch up with a few folk at WOS too

Cheers
Richard

Richard,
Your team is a great inspiration to all racers.
Build a bike and bring it and the team half way around the world and run 250mph.
Very impressive effort. I have no doubt that you will run 260 mph in the near future.
Congrats,you guys beat me by a mile(actually 4or 5 mph!)

Jason McVicar

Thanks for that Jason, it was great to meet you at the salt and share some knowledge.
If you ever want to know anything about the bike just let me know.

I'm sure you could have run a faster time if you weren't saddled with your injuries which would have been very painful in the crouched position I'm sure. Hope you heal up soon

Cheers
Richard

Jason, I do think that Mr. Assen's here right now, and he's not talking about slacking off just to give you some breathing room.  Keep an eye on this site for some results.

I believe the award goes to the participant who leave the most parts on the salt after a run.

The big winner was John Yeats.

I am "Lucky" enough to have Leslie's box of Lucky Charms (personalized with autograph) sitting next to my other LSR trophies!

Well done Richard. I remember running in your neck of the woods in 2000 (Lake Gairdner) and what a fun bunch of guys over there. Richard, or anyone else reading this, I need a hi-res picture of Richard and his machine, either in the pits or on the course for an article I'm writing that is due soon. Sorry I missed the photo op! We were pretty caught up in our own racing program and I failed to get a shot of the fastest Aussie on the planet. My bad!

If available, please send to: rockjok6@sbcglobal.net  (please include photo credit)

Thank you!

Geeesh, not literally. I was just impressed with his performances on the salt... It takes a huge effort to travel halfway across the planet and give it your all. 250 mph anywhere is fast...

Richard is a Kiwi, although he lives and works in Melboune, Australia. The bike is tuned by Jason Swan who lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand, the effot this year was sponsered by a NZ  company called Award Attachments, who make heavy lifting stuff for scrap metal.
It certinatly is a great effot from the boys, and although thay are not aussies, we will claim them as the fastest from down under, period. 8-)

Rocky, i will pm you a contact,,,,
First Australian to ride a motorcycle over 200mph at Bonneville,,,

Today, The Californian published an article about Rocky:

Feeling the need for speed

...It would be awhile before the Top 1 Ack Attack team would have a legitimate shot to take the record back after its bike hit 300 mph on the salt flats and tumbled 12 times. Akatiff said that pursuit of the record was the main reason he crashed. "When the bike wobbled, he pulled off. Then it started to do a side to side and he punched the throttle," he said.

Robinson would come out of the accident unscathed, but the bike was completely destroyed. "I went for it," he said. "We were right at 300 and going at world record pace when I crashed. What was scary about it is that the canopy tore off and all the salt started shoveling in."

The Top 1 Ack Attack team brought its rebuilt bike back to Bonneville a little more than a year after their crash. This time, they would leave their competitors reeling after setting a record that left no doubt. His speed beat Manning and the BUB team by a full 10 mph. "They got the best rider and the best bike for now, but we'll be back," Manning said. "He's the king and there's no discounting it."

With the world record in hand, there's a chance that Robinson could retire after 40 years behind the handlebars, but there is a condition. "If nobody beats my record anytime soon, it's time to retire," he said. "But, I'm still fit enough to go out there and do it again."
