most bikes dont have chutes,  only the fast steamliner ones.

Isn't there a propeller-driven bike that runs a chute?   :?

Yup, you're right about chutes and most bikes -- but I didn't limit my comment on chutes to bikes.  I think a good discussion on chutes will be welcome.

In the meantime, the tow line is being laid out for the Bub bike.  The bike is on the other side (from our vantage oint) of their support truck/mobile pit -- and last time I walked out to look the bike was stillon the transporter.  They'll be ready to go, they say, in a few minutes.  I guess it comes off the transporter quickly.

a few years ago some big dude had a twin Harley with a drag slick tire and two chutes on it. Sit on type bike but it never made it the the 2-1/4 trap.

Chris still is standing on the track.  Dressed in the suit -- but not in the bike.  gotta get the run going soon -- sun's going down fast, you know.

As for chutes -- I'd really like to have one or more of the chute company folks on here, willing to not only take the low shots that'll no doubt be fired at him by some yokels that need to show how much they know that the chute guys don't (hear the hint? --Leave 'em alone to try to teach  --  don't show how much you think you know), but also will be willing to answer specific questions that are posed in a manner that'll helpus all learn about the devices.

By the way -- disclaimer:  The chute topic isn't my idea -- was planted by someone that wishes to remain out of the argument -- just wants to talk about the subject.

Still see Chris outside the bike.

Now he's getting dressed and into the bike.  All in the bike.  Tower is ready -- course is clear.

I suspect BUB will make a check out pass today to check out their repairs and then go for it tomorrow or when  the wind is favorable.

Bob Stroud did a very interesting  article for Bonneville Racing News a few years ago. Covered a lot of bases, on size, mounting etc. Maybe contacting him would be a good plan and see if he would be willing to do something for the site as well as himself.

Belts are on the rider, should be ready in a couple of minutes per Mike Cook.  Per Bub channel on the radio -- "about ready to run".  That's what I heard on the other radio, too.  Still not running.

Putting the canopy down.  Engine running.

Nancy's got paper and pencil ready.

Engine shut off.

Engine running again.  I'll start a new post.

Vehcile under way.

Tow rope loose, on his own.  Chute out and panel off the bike! Stopping on the course.

I don't see the bike -- must be at least a mile down the course.  Theporta-pit is on the way to fetch.  No smoke, no fire, Chris still inside the bike.  Fire and rescue rolling just in case.

Panel on course must be the streamlining plug that pops out to allow the shut to deploy.

BUB going by me and then the chute popped at the 1 mile.

Edit...chopper went by real slow and pretty low a short while (10 minutes) after the BUB.

And the porta-pit just came back with the liner in it.
