Can you park an RV at the "Bend in the road?"   F-250 pulling a 30' fifth wheel.

KOA is booked and it appears everything else.

Suggestions would be helpful for someone who has never attended.

Thanks

Not a problem Jetblast.  Theres plenty of room at the bend.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

There's virtually unlimited room for parking at the Bend in the Road.  You might end up a quarter mile from the bend itself -- you could be within fifty feet if you arrive a few days early.  You could choose to get away from the "crowd" and park a mile away.  There's lots of room.

Be aware, though, that you'll be parking on a dried-up mud flat.  All's just dandy -- until it rains, at which time you must negotiate all of what used to be hard surface - now turned to gooey mud to get back to pavement.  About once every other year or so is how often it turns to mud.  Don't worry too much -- and watch the forecast, ask others that have been there before, and carry a long tow rope/chain in your rig.

Looking at pictures form past Speedweeks, it looks like trucks with trailers and RV's on the salt. Can you take your trailers on the salt during racing? How do racers get their support equipment to the race?

You can take your trailers out to the spectator line for the day and tow it back out in the afternoon.  Only those vehicles with a crew pass can get into the pits or at the start line with motor homes.

When you say: "out to the spectator line for the day. "  You are referring to 5th wheel RVs and travel trailers?

thank you for the info.

Yep -- the spectator line is out past the pits, about the 4 mile and up to the 5 -- approximately.  You'll be sitting looking at the course, vehicles approaching form the right and going past headed to your left -- and you'll be about 3/8 mile away from the course.  You can also park in a similar position before the pits and the vendor area -- and there you'll not only see the race vehicles on the course - but also the vehicles moving slowly down the road to the staging area.  Both are pretty good.

The only place where big RVs and 5th wheels and such aren't particularly welcome is right at the staging area.  It gets too crowded up there.

Actually the spectator area is three miles long from the pits to the starting line and 1 mile long from the end of the pits to approx. the 5 mile sign.

This morning I sent out a few emails asking some Wendover folks about non-motel/casino lodging for SpeedWeek.  If I hear anything good I'll letcha all know.

Also -- it's getting about time for me to start a separate Salt Talks 2010 thread.  I'm gathering photos of vehicles for the t-shirts, and I'm getting ready to order the pasties, and so on.  Keep your eyes open for Salt Talks -- and get ready for the usual bunch of questions about pasties and asking just what the heck IS Salt Talks and where and when and so on.  It's a'comin'!

Yes, Don, I do have "that" photo -- and others, but you won't see them .  And - Nancy has given me permission, so to speak, to post that photo again.  Soon, maybe, when the requests for "What's a pasty?" get frequent.

Ah, the fun of getting ready for Speedweek continues.  Just a few minutes ago Nancy and I finished filling out the medical forms and the entry forms and I wrote out the check -- and tomorrow's mail will carry our Speedweek '10 entry to JoAnn Carlson (SCTA/BNI office lady).

Have you got your entry(ies) done and mailed?  Remember that the pre-registration deadline is the 15th of May -- about three weeks from now.  Get 'em done and mailed - so you not only save the couple of hundred dollars that it'd cost you to be tardy, but also so that the organizations can have a good idea of how many racers they'll be hosting this year.

Oh -- if you haven't been through it, please consider entering your vehicle - even if you're not sure whether it'll be running/ready for Speedweek.  There is no worry that you'll be stuck with nothing but a receipt - and out the $400 -- if you can't run after all.  There are ALWAYS folks looking to buy another entry, for whatever reason.  You'll see them asking here, there, and everywhere.  I've been party to the sale and delivery of entries while standing in the registration line.  Go ahead, write out the forms and the check and mail 'em to P O Box 10, Orosi, CA 93647.  And don't forget to include a photo of your race vehicle - so the picture can be included in the program.  They'll accept a photo that's emailed (in a common format, such as a .jpeg, but good resolution, please) in case you don't have a fine copy of the rig in your stockpile of pictures.

Why are you still reading?  Why aren't you slapping your forehead and thanking me, under your breath, for reminding you about this required chore to GO RACING!!
