M/C minimums again.
« Reply #90 on: August 20, 2006, 10:53:43 PM »
I stand corrected.  Mininums and the rent a ride issue were inclusive of all forms of vehicles, not just motorcycles.[/quote]

KH, I wrote this before you edited the above quote but the reason the 2 club minimums came into being (for both cars and bikes) was because of the proliferation of classes. New classes were being added at a tremendous rate, this led to a lot of classes with no record (all you need to do is look at the record book) it was an attempt to keep the achievement significant, those who choose to paint it with a different brush don't know the history of the club or LSR. At one time it was just set a record over 2 but with only 60 or so classes there was competition now we need minimums. JMO

After exhaustive research, the Bonneville 40MPH club has accepted 2 new members. Please give them a round of applause.

Our current club roster is: (Rider, Team, Speed, Class, Vehicle, Venue)
1. Jason Arana, Sloan Express, 35.005 MPH, APS-VG 50cc, 1955 Express Radexi, 2006 Speedweek
2. Rick Yacoucci, Langsam Express,  35.299 MPH, A-VG 50cc, 1955 Express Radexi, 2006 Speedweek
3. Alan Galbraith, Team Galbraith, 37.561 MPH, SC-F 50cc, Yamaha YSR, 2001 WOS
4. Paul Broughan, 36.255 MPH, P-PP, 50cc Honda Monkey, 2004 DLRA

Since the "40 Club" is accepting non-Bonneville members, I would humbly  (OK-as humbly as I can) submit my Maxton record of 28.292 MPH in  class M/PBG-100 set in October of 1997, on a bone-stock 1960 Honda step-through pushrod something-or-other.

Proud to be first in the 20's.

That would make me the slowest of the slowest?

(That's the slowest record at Maxton, and I feel justifiably proud of it, thank you!)

I'm sorry Scott, but accepting Maxton records would just lead to the denegration of the club. We have to draw the line somewhere and since YOUR record would beat MY record, I am recommending to the Board that your record be denied.

Yours in Sport,
John

guys............the car guys have had minimums for
DECADES for the reasons that many here want to
ignore...............

why wouldnt there then be minimums for bikes......for
the same rationale.........

its not easy for a car to go 200 either..........but not everyone
who goes over 2 in a car is accepted......and for good reason.........

Against my recommendation, the board has voted to accept Scott Guthries Maxton record. Additionally, pending further information, Lloyd Healy has been provisionally added with his 31.389 MPH record.

What event was Lloyd Healys record set at?

Our current club roster is: (Rider, Team, Speed, Class, Vehicle, Venue)
1. Jason Arana, Sloan Express, 35.005 MPH, APS-VG 50cc, 1955 Express Radexi, 2006 Speedweek
2. Rick Yacoucci, Langsam Express,  35.299 MPH, A-VG 50cc, 1955 Express Radexi, 2006 Speedweek
3. Alan Galbraith, Team Galbraith, 37.561 MPH, SC-F 50cc, Yamaha YSR, 2001 WOS
4. Paul Broughan, 36.255 MPH, P-PP, 50cc Honda Monkey, 2004 DLRA
5. Lloyd Healy, Powertron/E-Z Red, 31.839 MPH SC-G 50cc, Honda, 1995 << PROVISIONAL>>
6. Scott Guthrie, 28.292 MPH, M-PBG 100cc, 1960 Honda, 10-97 Maxton

Scott Guthries run makes me think that I need to set up the class minimums. A 100cc M/C that only goes 28 MPH smells fishy to me... Smells like a bag of sand, if you know what I mean...

name one good reason.

why should the minimum be set in some boardroom.. and not on the Salt?

The minimum to get in the 200mph club should be set by the last person to set a record over 200mph in the class. To get in the club, you have to beat that record.

why does it have to be any more complicated than that?

again, if its SO easy... why isnt EVERYONE doing it?

how many of those EASY 200mph Club enteries have been thwarted by the setting of minimums?

alan........COME ON DUDE....................

lets say 3000 cc streamliner blown fuel vintage........

has no record..........

guy goes out and goes 200.222 mph...........

then he goes out again and runs 200.223 and gets in the club (with your logic)
..........THAT KIND OF ACHIEVMENT IS NOT WHAT the "BONNEVILLE"
200 mph club is all about................!!!!

I know that probably isnt clear enough.............

GUYS PLEASE THINK BACK TO 1949 OR SO WHEN THE BONN 2 CLUB
BEGAN..............AND WHAT IT MEANT TO GET IN THE CLUB............

THE INTENT IS FOR THE "ACCOMPLISHMENT" TO CLOSELY APROXIMATE
WHAT IT MEANT THEN................

as someone mentioned before........everyone who goes over
200 mph IS in the 200 mph club...........just NOT the Bonneville
200 mph club............

like a tech inspector advised me in impound this year....over hearing my
"opinion" of an issue.........."sounds like you need to start your own
sanctioning body........that way you can do what you want"............

those folks in the Bonn 2 club are the best on the planet........IT MEANS
ALOT TO THEM TO BE ABLE TO PRESENT THE RED HAT.......

Joe :):)

I disagree,Joe. If someone were to put in the time, skill, and determination to build such a ride he would certainly deserve recognition for attaining that speed.
John R, in answer to the statement regarding all the possible configurations in SC streamliner, realistically how many of those are capable of going 200 mph and how many that are,are ever going to be built in those configurations?
Bonneville 2001,2002,2003,2004,and NO stinking 2005,DLRA 2006, next?
Well, sure can't complain about 2008--6 records over 200 and 5 hats from Bonneville,Bubs, and El Mirage for the team!

John,
Just got back from Cycle Gear. Ordered my leathers but they said they would take 8 weeks. Something about taking too much material to make my suit. The good news is I told them all about the 40 MPH Club, and they told me they have a secret spray they can put on the suit. It works like Pam in a frying pan and does not let the boundry layer of air stick to your leathers. Not cheap, $400 option. I said what the heck, it is only money and I really want to be a member of the 40 MPH Club. I was hoping to be the third person in the club, but I see it has aready tripled in size in just a few hours. I will call Cycle Gear tomorrow and have them put a rush on my order. I don't care how many cows it takes to make my suit. I can't wait. Are there any plans for a Dirty 40 MPH Club. Please let me know, this has me pumped up.

Thanks,
Tom Gerardi

Now your talking sidecars....and sidecar streamliners....that's my game......as I have posted in another post, the FIM World Record
1000.c.c. holding sidecar that set the record last year in New Zealand
at 172mph on a wet, rainy country road, is now in the U.S.A. and will be making some test runs at the BUB Meet. The streamliner body has been windtunnel tested.....making over 20 models runs in the tunnel, with the final results.... the body that is now on the sidecar.  As it now sits
I feel the "outfit" with a 1000c.c.
motor should run in the mid 190mph range at Bonneville. The 1000c.c.
motor is "almost" stock.....with a bigger motor and some work this sidecar will run in the 230 to 250mph range....that is why I asked what is the minimum for sidecars in the "Red-Hat Club".

Jim, (you know I love and respect you :):)..........he does get the recognition he
deserves for getting a 3000 cc blown fuel streamliner
to an amazing speed of 200.223 mph.............

and if he breaks the minimum for entry into the Bonn
Two club............he gets that recognition as well.............

Aaron........if you would like you could discuss (again) the rationale
into the revisions proposed for the Vtwin class minimums...here ...that
way more than just a few will garner the education..........

thats what the potential of this site hopes to do........broaden perspectives.....

along with that.........are strong feelings.........on many sides........those
are just as valuable.........

same goes for proposed motorcyle rules change requests.......they ultimately need to be in the hands of motorcyle tech............

BUT they could be brought out in the open here........for a more involved and informed discussion.........then the result could be forwarded officially
the the committee.........and likely carry MUCH more clout....as
those such as Russ Odaly (chief motorc. tech) are reluctant to wade through the negative banter that often is such a large part of internet
discussions.........we can save him from that.......by wading through it
here........and informing MASSIVELY more folks here....and gaining
much more informed input.....from those that would otherwise have
no knowledge of such proposed changes...........

Joe :)

A couple of thoughts re: 40 MPH Club.

It is obvious to me that at any banquet the club has that the meat of choice MUST be prepared in a 'slow' cooker.

The most impressive achievement of charter member Rick Yacoucci is that most desired, yet difficult to reach goal of the widest variance of a speed record by a single pilot(rider/driver) at the same meet has been reached in 2006.

Rick has set a record of 35mph and 348mph at Speedweek 2006. This is a spread of 313mph!!!

Good on ya mate.

Dan,
Exellent idea about the slow cooker. That would mean more time for the cocktail hour. I will bring the Keg of Corona. Who will bring the limes?

The origional Minimums Proposal
« Reply #104 on: August 21, 2006, 10:35:52 AM »
The proposal to develope the current (past 5 years) Motorcycle Minimums came from a NON-Club Member - he is still attempting to gain his Red Hat.  He is working very hard to achieve a record he can be proud of - You don't need a name but you know him.  Pat Kinne
