Looked at the Corvette in the pit. It appeared as if the epoxy bonding the skins to frame failed. I have seen this often with RV's. Something to consider beefing up when building newer fiberglass/composit vehicles.

Sparky, That is the very reason I put the roof flap in our C5 Vette.

I have a question about "five fastest of all time".  Not a record keeper, just an  old, foggy, getting worse, memory.

Do the 1/4 times listed include the times in the mid 80's when Al and Nolan were starting at the truck stop for their down leg?  I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone's accomplishments, just compare apples to apples as said in another post.

Maybe there are no notations as to where the run started. If those runs were included, Maybe Freddy's run was the fastest ever starting from the starting line. Credit where credit is due. Does anyone have that info? Definitely hauling what ever fits in the seat. (note PC, LOL)

Wish I was there, sounds like I missed a good time and good salt.

Debbie! A little off on the spelling, but i'm with you.

jonesing

verb

    * to feel withdrawal symptoms, especially from a drug.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Having trouble with the cell modem.  Trying again.

502 Purple Haze...no speed but he got the record.

Nancy just missed backing hers up.

Fast Freddie Danenfeltzer shredded a tire, but backed up his record.

Best comparison would be the Cook Shootout times.  That's as long as we have really ever had give or take 100 yards.  That's about as close as you could get then to now.  Since those are only for a flying Kilo/mile there's really no comparison. The quarter mile time on Burkland's 450 exit speed run in 2000 was not his fastest quarter time as I remember the discussion.  Run up distances have never been an exact apples for apples comparison because of varying salt conditions.  The late 80's, and pre-93 courses varied because of salt loss over those four or five years when the total course shrunk from 9 to 7 miles.

A couple more before I leave the 4.

Rick Hedrich just missed the record backup.

The Barnyard Bearcat was one of the first qualifiers and will go to impound.

Rick Yacoucci just blew an oil line at the 2 mile and sprayed a bit of oil near the pits.

Doug,
Knowing about your efforts with the C5 is what prompted my comment---you were on top of your your game as usuall---the other game you are on top of is caster---as more amd more people try to address their handling isses-----much less caster as you have advocated & they will need to learn about  scrub radius & move toward 0.

I guess I was presuming that the times posted were SCTA / USFRA meets with a 2 mile run up to the 1/4 clocks except for Al and Nolan,s head start back then. If no uniformity, no comparison.
