Thanks for the kind words Sparky and John!!
Rick, perhaps I should clarify, when we first decided to bring the car to Bonneville, we contacted several SCTA safety and technical officials, using their understanding of the rules, and class structures, it was determined that the only class we fit into that had a record to use as a milestone, was modified sport. It seems logical to me, that if a car owner is going to invest the time and money necessary to compete, he may as well go after a record.
Stan, we know what can happen to this particular Enzo when air gets underneath it. The results are catastrophic! So yes I was concerned about the aero effects as we were lifting the front end at speed. As I tried to describe in my previous response, one car substantially as produced by the manufacturer, and one highly modified...it's apples and oranges.
Regardless, I am pleased that in one season, we took a reconstructed car, a rookie land speed driver, who was able to get his category D,C,B and A licenses. We overcame a bunch of mechanical and handling issues, chute problems, and ultimately ended the season as record holders. And we made a bunch of new friends in the LSR community to boot. I just could not be more pleased.
Overall I think it was a successful debut of the car, and if we come off as "puffed up", well again, I'm sorry. Perhaps I need to take the sage advice of Elbert Hubbard; "Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway." so I'll just shut up now.
