« on: March 17, 2010, 09:38:45 AM »
Ok,  after experiencing a salt storm,  last year,  the pop up tent shades have to go,    I want to make a set up like,   Tech uses,  but I did not take any photos, or look at things close enough.

can anyone post a photo , or help with some instructions

Thanks in advance
Dave

Dave, even though I've helped set up the covers in tech a bunch of times -- I don't think I've bothered to take photos of the parts.

The metal is 8 and 10-foot sticks of conduit, I believe, with metal joints that accept the pieces.  The joints have thumbscrews that can (usually, salt and crud notwithstanding) be tightened to hold things together.

The fabric itself is heavy mesh with grommets every few feet, and the mesh is held to the cross-pieces of the metal pipes with stretchy bungees.  Pegs are pounded into the salt and ropes are run from the pegs to the thumbscrews - so that everything is held secure.

I'll look for a photo -- might have one lurking somewhere that I don't remember.

I know that the metal stuff is usually available -- someone will chime in here and let us know where to buy it.  It is not cheap!

The popups work Ok if you angle guy them at all 4 corners. I also nail the legs down with lag bolts & tie off the chairs to the legs in case the wind comes up while Im gone

Here's my Parts list for my 20X20 shade.

1   Hoover Fence   20 X 20 Shade Material   $80.00
192ft    EMT    1" Frame Tube           $0.20
9   Try-Tech FP   Foot Pad   $3.00
4   Try-Tech F3   Flat Corner   $3.00
4   Try-Tech F4   Flat Side   $4.00
1   Try-Tech F5   Center   $7.00

I actually found the stuff at a swap meet in Orange County, CA
The vendors there all used the stuff.
They had the EMT cut into the 8 foot sections (9) and the 10 footers for the frame (12)
I also got a dozen of the big gutter nails at Home Depot for nailing down the foot pads.

Dave, Try www.all4canopy.com    Look at the sun screen mesh tarp. Keep the roof flat and you will not have fly away problems. YMMV  but that is what has worked best for me.

keep the top flat  it will stand up better in the wind---the local flee market is a good source for the metal parts --harbor freight is a good source for tarps and bungee cords               willie buchta

I'll second that, ours ,

is just welded corners and feet  with grub screws to hold it all tight , the Rev doesn't like it because there's no triangulation but it stays up all week with the shade cloth on which we use plastic spring clamps to secure......

I buy my parts from Marcos Canopies in San Marcos Ca. I have had flat 10x20 and  slightly peaked 16x20. Double direction your tie downs. If you have a trailer, tie to it on that side.

I've have solid (silver) and mesh (black). If I put up a mesh one, all my help is p----d off, too hot.

I usually don't take the cover down over night; on occasions I have rolled it up to one of the sides.  Having a roadster makes it easy. I use tie downs to the front axle, roll cage and push bar. I've never lost one over night. Remember to put the car in gear for the night.

A WHITE E-Z UP is something you will hate. Way too hot to sit under.....Just what I do JD

"Remember to put the car in gear for the night."

We have come to impound in the morning to find cars not in the same position they were in the night before. Some parked deep into others.
