Just got home, oh well the 2009 season is now in the books.
First of all, thoughts and prayers out to Mr Lombardi's family and all his/our racing family.
Second, a big Thank you to all of the ECTA Staff and the Volunteers that make all our events possible.
The Windy Weekend !!!
Can you say chilly wind,,, man my face is so wind burned..... Saturday the wind was blowing harder but most of the time a tail wind, sometimes a tail with a quartering cross wind,,,,
Today seemed to be mostly full on head winds at the start line but with some degree of crosswinds down track.
My first run, What a "pedal fest" The new headers sure picked up the power and that combined with new tire set up made the Vicky a handfull,, rear tires never hooked up... spun all they way to 100mph. then the darn rear end started dancing and I had to pedal again and finally just aborted and coasted thru the traps,,,oh well 106mph,, but I learned what NOT to do next time.
Second Run was much better... I launched with less RPM and the tire spin was not as wild, only spun 25 feet or so... short shifted into second at 7,000, a little tire spin, then hooked better, pulled hard in second to 8,000 then hit third and stayed hooked.. head wind / slight crossed buffeting the car to and fro,, but OK, then hit a patch and on the bounce the car rev'd 400 more R's , rear wiggled, Pedal'd a bit ,, then got back in it,,, pedal'd again, one more stab at the gas and whoosh... I was thru the lights, breathing so hard, fogged my face shield,, rolled out of the gas, now some brakes, visor up, decided I needed to go long.. cleared the track, now on return road and the nice Motor Home "Blue Birds" had a chalk Board showing 151 MPH, and a nice thumbs up,,, Thanks to our Blue Bird friends....
151.41230 mph The Vicky's fastest run to date. All with tires spinning, hopping, yawing, and a headwind.. I'll take it...
2009 is in the books,,, Hope we all keep in touch on here and on the Tuesday Night Chat's
