2 part question, is this a good foundation to start with and
« on: September 25, 2007, 03:00:22 PM »
what is a fair price for such an animal? currently on eBay motors, item=280156448952
I think it could be a great lakester, front drive, sit toward the back, I'd run a small 4 with a turbo.

thoughts, comments?
I'd really like to find a belly tank.

I guess you will have to ask one of your teammates  or do you mean the other one............

I think he ran almost 270 just a couple miles an hour off the record.  I like a lot about this car and think he will have the record next year,

I am thinking something like this
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196718&highlight=front+drive+lakester
would be great with the shape of the rear to form the canopy, sit like an old FED with a turbo chrysler 4 or maybe a rb25det if I get that lotto ticket. I want to look at the F/bgl class.

dimensions are 17' x 3.5' diameter supposedly

or, would one of these be better?
1) 22 feet long and 36 inches in diameter.

2) 25 feet long and 31 inches in diameter.

both found for $350 a piece

31" doesn't seem wide enough, i'm 24" at the shoulder, plus a cage, I don't think it will work. if interested, i'll give you the phone #

and just to check, is the record for F/BGL still 158 and change? that seems doable on a budget.

24 + 4 is 28 with room to spare.  31 is really large, of course that is my personal opinion, our car is 24 wide and a squeeze for every driver so far  :-D

Also your shoulders can go to the outsides of the cage if it is plated there.  So you can have an upper member and a lower member and your shoulders/elbows can be between them to the outside edge of them.  Then plate that area on the outside of the members and that will only add 1/4 to 1/2 inch depending on plate thickness.

Watch going after those slow records unless you are ready to run right now.  When I first started building a lakester I was going to go after an F record that was under 200 and now it is over 220.  That is really a soft record and the chances of it being there a couple years from now might be slim.

Try and build the car to go after the record when it is up where it should be about 230 to 240 mph.

I'm taking so long with my car because the record Stainless and the crew has is too soft and no challenge  8-), so I'm waiting for them to up it and then I'll feel like I've accomplished something    :-) , well at least that's my story, and I'm sticking with it,

I think it is a class i can use alot of factory parts and stay in the rules (less $$) and if I don't bring down goliath, so be it. There are also smaller motors if I want to go down :)

Make sure you guys get a written receipt.  Just like the written order.  And the rounded off memory total.  And order a couple special sodas for me.

Maybe we oughta start a thread of "Experiences at the Salt Flats Cafe".  I could tell some good stories, too.  Someone else start it -- I'll chime in later. . .

Jack meant to write "Apple Juice", not special soda. That is the code word at the cafe.

That's what I thought, Dan.  First time I heard that phrase was when Sparky sat with Nancy and me and Russ and ordered "apple juice" -- and the waiter brought a plastic water tumbler full of this foam-topped liquid to the table.  I didn't know apple juice had a head on it. . .
