Things to do in and around the salt
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:29:21 PM »
I'm coming over from the Uk for this years speed week (not taking part this time. ..) there is obviously a lot going on the salt but is there anything worth checking out in the vicinity or even on the way in from Salt lake city?

Cheers
Dom

I recommend that you take a look at the ruins of Wendover Field. The Enola Gay hangar is still standing ... Joe

Joe and list. An update on Wendover Field is there is a small museum open daily. Also some re construction has started on the the hanger and more funding is needed. This is such a historical place and should be preserved.
I first saw it it in 1953 and didn't take any pictures as I sure wished I had done at that time. There are a couple of books out and sold at the museum and the visitors center in town. That should be visited as well. The Nugget hotel has a lot of great pictures on the 2 nd floor by the Bonneville room.  :-o

August 6 is the Enola Gay anniversary and August 9 is the Bockscar anniversary. The Bockscar was the airplane that dropped last.

Some copy cats named their record holding lakester after that project.

See if u can find the car on the Salt this year.

They will let u look at it if u offer refreshments.

They do some scuba diving certification at Blue Lake a few miles south of Wendover on the way to Ely.  Just off the road to the east.

Hey Dom, Lots of Kiwi's & Ozzy's on the salt & prob Brit's. Look for the flags flying & stop buy. Everybody's middle name on the salt is 'havachat'. We're all there for the same reason. Sid.
