Bonneville Stories XV Richard Assen's 250MPH Hayabusa

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sRM523pfqQ

From the land that brought us the kiwi bird and Bert Munro come the A-Ward Attachment team setting a new world record for the SCTA.  Richard Assen can’t wait to get back to the flats because “when the flag drops the bike accelerates very fast and you redline in every gear and the air tries to suck you off the back of the bike … it’s one of the most exhilarating  experience I’ve ever had- to be alone in silence in this great white void with euphoria washing over you-it’s completely magic!”

The team consists of Assen, a passionate part time bike builder; Jason Swan, the talented bike tuner, and Simon Ward, the owner of A-Ward Attachments and team manager who has been involved with things that go fast since he can remember.

The love affair with speed began at Australia’s Lake Gairdner but after two years of cancellations, Assen and Swan decided to travel to the Bonneville track made famous by the film version of Bert Munro’s life – the World’s Fastest Indian.  After scraping enough money together to get themselves and their bike to the salt flats the respectable 355k/h was not accepted because of faulty registration but they were awarded the fastest motorbike at the World of Speed event.

Assen and A-Ward Attachments Racing will be back in Bonneville in 2010.  The bike is a 2004 Suzuki Hayabusa raced in the MPS-1350-BG modified class, partially streamlined with a 1350cc turbo-charged engine running on gasoline.
