Utah roads....
« on: August 03, 2009, 10:28:40 PM »
Just a few tips..

If you are coming from the east via I-80, it would be in your best interest to detour through Ogden via I-84 at Echo junction, about 30 miles west of Evanston Wyoming. I-80 is much steeper and is also under construction along the east side of Salt Lake still. If you do choose to come through Salt Lake, a good choice would be to take the I-215 belt route around the south end of the city and pick  up I-80 on the west side of the valley. I-215 can be accessed at the bottom of Parleys canyon on I-80. SR 201 (the 21st south freeway) is a complete nightmare frpm 3200 west to 6500 west pulling a trailer and should be avoided at all costs. I know it is hard when you are getting so close to mecca, but don't speed through ANY construction zones. The Utah Highway Patrol is freely handing out double fine tickets for speeding in construction zones. And they are good at using inconspicuous unmarked cars. Please drive safe everyone and I hope to see you all on the Salt....

You think the cops are busy handing out tickets?  Man, they're really busy doing important stuff.  Nancy and I were headed west from SLC about 10.30 this morning when we came upon this scene:

And that's no bull!  Well, really, it was a bull.  Pretty big, too.  Moseying down the median of the interstate.

....."this will be a whole lot easier if you just come along friendly like, we just want to ask you a few questions, If we have to arrest you Mister that's a whole lot of paper work that's gonna make me kind of want to get a result............so, are you gonna come quietly and just hop in the back of the car ? , Sir! I take exception to you ignoring me , relieving yourself in a public place and just chewin, are you aware it is an offense to ignore the DYE-RECTIONS of a PO-LEESE officer?"
Few understand what I'm trying to do but they vastly outnumber those who understand why...................

Maybe the highway patrolman is using his binocks to get the ear tag number to find out who owns the now "free range" big guy...
Getting him in a trailer might be a handfull after experiencing some freedom.
BTW, what class would he run in if he makes it over to the tracks... :-D

You can rule out a production class - the horns have been removed.

If you do use I-84 coming west on I-80 you would be wise to take the Legacy Highway that splits off I-15 south of Kaysville near the Lagoon exits.  It is a new 55 MPH road, not for trucks, but it gets you to I-215 just north of Salt Lake City and there's only three or so exits before you hit the I-80 west exit.  It is designed to bypass the busy part of I-15 and it avoids some current construction delays approaching Salt Lake City.
