I just noticed this from the front page:

Following a report complied by Tech Committee Chair, Cars Lee Kennedy, Motorcycle Committee Chair Van Butler and Goodyear Tire engineers the SCTA Board of Directors voted to make the 17x22x2.5 tire illegal for use as a DRIVE TIRE.
The tire in question is a 22x2.5 on a 17” rim and many tire manufacturers make this size of racing tire for drag racing.  It is made by Goodyear and is listed as a “Top Fuel” "Frontrunner" and has a tire code of D1445. Carroll Shelby has a part number of 808-102-089 or for the 22x4.5x17 a part number of 808-130-089. Some examples of other tire manufactures who make this tire include Mickey Thompson with a part number of 672-3004 and Phoenix tire with a part number of 932-PH460.
 
So save me some work and hopefully you guys can come Through with a definitive answer. What is the skinnyest, drive tire legal L.S.R. tire good to at least 150mph that is no more than 23 inches tall and fits on a 15 inch rim?

Yes but you have to have a tire to submit to ask a question, right?

As I understand it:

Under 200, you can use any DOT VR/ZR speed rated tire. 

There are also a number of 15" front drag tires that are wider than 2.5 for use on drag cars.

I'm not privy to the decision info, but I'd guess the 2.5 front runners can't support the weight of a car safely.

Did a quick web search.  M&H makes a 3.5/22-15 DOT drag tire.

Ask if that one is legal.

if we are talking bikes---H to 130 mph---V to 150 mph  is shaved to 200 mph---ZR 151 mph and up---over 264 mph lsr or race tire rated for speeds higher than the class record----i dont know of a 15 in tire but avon makes a 16 in tire that is 32 in tall and 4.5 in wide it is a roadrider 26 --its rated V and its a front or rear and it costs 78 dollars from J & P cycles           willie buchta

tires designed for use on the drive wheel in drag racing will not be allowed and D.O.T. tires cant be older than 10 years old

Dont bother, they are.

I ran 208+ (214) on GPS with these as my drive tire, without being siped and they are perfect.

These are great tires and I highly recommend them.

THey will also be replacing my fronts as well as I had "issues" with my current configuration.

If you run these tires on the salt and need a emergency spare, I always carry a few.

Thats great info, I was hoping that the drag and not the similar LSR front runners were legal as drive tires up to at least 150MPH.( I think they are quite abit more reasonably priced too!)    Thanks J.H.
