Honda F1 car attempts land speed record at Bonneville
« on: February 02, 2009, 08:28:55 PM »
 This is neat F1

I never new an F1 ever attempted setting a record at Bonneville 220.897 mph an official record. If salt condition where better and less tire spin it may have gone much faster

First year they ran the TC locked the car up for a few days. The second year they were able to best a Nish FIA record but did not accomplish their goal of 400KPH.

There is a thread from a couple of years ago, several pages. I don't know how to research old threads maybe some else can look it up and post the link.

Dan,

Best part was that they could not even better our first Bonneville ever record of a 250 two way average on a 12K motorcycle with there Million dollar effort... :-D

I just read the article and that car was FAR from race legal. After the 220 record Mike Cook and Captain Billy took after it and "Bonnevilleized" it for an extra 20 MPH.

I think it would have been more fun to run it at the Silver State Classic.

I wonder what that Bugatti Veyron? would run at high altitude on the salt?

Pioneer Productions recently contacted me to propose a match race between the North American Eagle
and the Bugatti. I told them they would probably get me for the first mile or so then I would honk my
horn as a blow by them. Have to be careful though, might suck them into an inlet.

Veyron would only do 174.585 mph on the salt

Only 174? I posted 198 at the one mile before going into afterburner for 5 seconds. I don't
think this will be a fair race.

That's what I'm thinkin'!  :D  RIIGGGHHTTT...  I'd like to see if I can tow a Mustang faster than it can go under it's own power, is there a class for that?

Top Gear ran some American cars recently, a Dodge Charger?, a CTS-V Caddy, and a ZR1 Vette, but I don't know how fast they went at Bonneville.  That could give some good input as to how much loss there is at Bonneville, since they've also been tested at sea level asphalt.

I think he was teasing me.  My truck went 174.586 mph as the motor decided to enter retirement.
