JH, that is the car pitted right next to Burkland's. Rex is on their crew, and the program lists Tom Burkland as Rex's crewchief. It is/was a Jaguar, I believe. Neat car.

I think I was told it was a Saab.
I got to see the car up close but because I didn’t see any class or numbers I could not see how they ran.
Front wheel drive.....big motor...working doors and roof hatch, very cool and the build was very clean.

I am confident that the car will see bigger numbers in the future.

That certainly looks like an old Saab to me.

There's no way that's a Jaguar.

It is a Saab, Rex was doing low speed shakedown runs as it is different than any he has driven on the salt before.  As part of the Burkland group he has learned that thought, preparation and testing must outweigh the need for speed at the beginning.  It is a beautiful piece...

It's a Saab 96 with a coupla minor modifications.  I talked with a team member about it and asked if it was a 96 and his head kinda swiveled around and he gave me a real funny look.  He said, "You're about the only one who's known the model number."  I guess stuff like that happens when ya get old.  :)

Rex claims it started life as a Saab 99.  He calls it the "Saabstory"   He sold the parts to some Saab collectors and one of them was thrilled to get the exhaust parts that Rex describes as "tiny".  The guy was thrilled . . . "WOW, a high performance system".  Rex is still chuckling over that.

Rex has run the McLaren body on the Corvette chassis in years past on the salt and in the Nevada Open Road Challenge race from Lund to Hiko.  Tom and Bill York have been his crew on that.

Bill was running the #97 Camaro/Firebird that was pitted on the other side of Rex from the #411 car at Speed Week.

Ray, unluckely for you, I said also 96, I was only the year wrong - I thought it was a earlier 65, but it is a late 64 model......but for a European it was easier to find out
