Lake Gairdner 2008..........
« on: February 02, 2008, 05:34:48 PM »
So , who's gonna be there?......by all accounts the lake surface is looking good , the mud layer that ruined it last year has settled through and the most recent photo's had the heart a beating , some penetration tests were done over christmas and they proved it to be hard , and deep...There has been some water but hey , that's part and parcel . The peculiar situation at Gairdner is that a consistant northerly will push water across the surface from the upper reaches of the lake which is invariably wet but just as quickly a westerly or southerly can get rid of it........

Gail's streamliner is here , Doug Odom is coming ........who else?

well , we'll be there anyway.......

I'm jealous, and that's all there is to it.  I'm hip deep in snow right now, I'm using tire chains on my T-bird, and you're racing in less than a month. :-P

Best success this year, Dr. :-)

Goggles

Mate, I feel really sorry for you guys! You've been in last minute thrash mode for over a year now and it looks like being another year. I thought I'd leave visiting you guys last week as I'd see the car in only a few more weeks.... looks like that may not be. Given the detail that has been passed on so far I really don't think a postponement will fix things.

Christmas may again be cancelled

I don't blame you , that is terrible news.  At least we have a couple alternate dates, maybe it is time you guys look into something like that as with only one meet a year something like this really sucks.

c ya,

Sum

Sorry to hear that.  Life sucks but occasionally we get to race.  Hope you can get an alternate date.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

I had an English professor in college who always asked us to comment in writing on the papers we were about to hand in.  He always asked this question:

"If you had another 24 hours, what would you have done differently on this paper?"

It's depressing to lose an event that is this important.  But while you've spent so much time, effort and money in preparing for it, don't let the bad news overshadow the fact that when it does come time to race, you'll have had extra time to correct those issues that you know have been bouncing around in the back of your mind, and address any doubts that might still linger.

Yep, it sucks.  But it won't suck forever.

My band is playing tonight, beer will flow, and I'll raise a Fosters to you and your mates.

Perceiver.

My band played last night , I had a little trouble mustering for the occasion but I got there in the end , nothing like wringing the neck of an electric guitar when you're in the mood to hurt something...

One thing about the postponement/cancellation , I was fast running out of time to get a nice paint job on it before the meet , it would have been painted but I'd like to get something better than the "ten foot" ( OK 20)job it has on it now

I really feel sorry for you guys that the meeting has been cancelled. Over here we have nowhere serious to get speed other than a few old airfields, and they are all being subjected to noise restrictions, imposed due to objections from "townies" who move into the country and then object to smells, noise etc..My brother and I have been lucky to plan, organise and race at Speed Week three times, though it has been fraught at times. We are even planning on returning, with serious intentions of going much faster! You Australians will always perservere, and I respect you for that. Maybe it is time to try for more than one planned meeting a year.....
