Video of Sparky's almost 280 mph run............
« on: November 19, 2007, 06:33:18 PM »
I just put two videos that Sparky gave me this weekend on You Tube.

The first is his Record Qualifying Run of 276 mph with a 279+ exit speed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtGmGTHK6qc

The second is his record backup attempt where he ends up sideways at 245 to 250 mph:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPnvgj1Bdgk&feature=user

This is a really fast accelerating AA/G Lakester.

I have links to a lot more Bonneville videos here (go to videos on the menu):

Sum,

He pulled off to the right on a good run when he was done or was the first link the second run (return)?

John,

I think the first run was on course two.

Video 1.. Somebody must have drilled into his brain to get off the course because he definitely cleared the course quickly... I think it is always good to be under 100 when you pull off into the unknown...
Video 2.. That looked a little wild, noticed a lot of wheelspin...

Dan is correct.............and Stainless we talked about that quick exit when he was here and concluded that slowing to the 6 and then turning off is probably better as they probably aren't going to "call the course clear" any sooner.  Sparky said that when it is rough off the course he always waits much later.  He is making over 900 HP with the NA big block, so wheel spin can be a problem.  He is changing a lot of items on the car for next year and might even build a new one.

Sparky you home and have anything to add??

I took him hiking as he had the high bid for the canyon tour by me that was auctioned at Salt Talks for support for this site.  Linda and he went out with me on Sat. and then he and I went to Lewis Lodge (see picture above), remember that place SSS, on Sunday.  The weather was great.

As we left the canyon and got up on Milk Ranch Point (about 7,000 ft.) there was a great sunset.  The ridge in the picture is over 500 feet tall to give you some perspective and about 5-7 miles from where we were.  The mountain in the background is Sleeping Ute and is at the Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona four corners area 80 miles away.

The second run came the morning after Paul Powell hooked the laptop up in the impound while Sparky was not present. Paul folded the computer and said "thats 290"

It looks like Sparky had a bad case of the red hat hanging on a stick in front of the canopy on run #2.

Well let me tell you I saw the other side of the car before the chute saved it from in the tower, it was big time crossed up.

Those are just amazing videos.

Second video tons of wheelspin as you can notice.

And what is with the black sun spot when he was in the spin, look at upper left corner when he spins.

Just wow... As stainless said, first video he got off in a real hurry, early in the video it looked like it got a little squirlly, and a couple times in the second video...

Good job Sparky.

Jon he took the video with a radio shack camera and the black spot is the sun.  I guess it overpowered the lens or something,

Sparky, I hope you enjoyed your "tour" of the ancient ruins and kivas as much as did Nancy and I.  I've got a batch of other photos that I could share with anyone else that wants to see -- and anyone else that might want to visit Sumner.  Hey, Sum -- you gonna make a similar offer at next year's Salt Talks?  We can start drumming up interest now. . .

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
